It's time for the "land doesn't vote, people do" map, Canada 2025 edition:

A map of Canada's recent election, where each riding is colored according to which party wonA Dorling Cartogram of the same election results. In this case each riding has been converted into a similarly-sized circle and packed into their approximate location on the map, although there is a huge amount of distortion due to Canada's high variation in population density. Basically, you see one blob at the left which is BC and Alberta (mainly blobs around their major population centers) and one bigger blob on the right which is the main Canadian population center along the Windsor to Quebec City corridor.

Liberals won! So thankfully I don't have to give up on this shithole just yet, though we're a few seats short of a majority, so Canada remains on the country equivalent of academic probation in my book.

That being said, the GPPC (Garbage People's Party of Canada) barely registered at all with less than 1% of the popular vote, so that's definitely reason enough to celebrate.

🧵 The #election results are in, and Mark Carney’s Liberals have secured a minority. This proves that people across Canada reject Poilievre’s divisive, Trumpian-style politics. It’s a massive win for our movement and all of us who worked to challenge Poilievre’s toxic vision of Canada. #CanadaVotes

People power helped defeat Poilievre’s Conservatives this election. But the work is not over.

We hold the balance of power.

A minority government is a key opportunity for us to push the Liberals to deliver solutions that will put people and our climate over profit.

Jacques is relaxing today (when isn't he relaxing?), after staying up late watching the dynamic and sometimes nail-biting election results. This hooman is relieved.

Beige tabby relaxing on his side with his belly ready for rubbing. Strangely, this is actually NOT a trap. He's lying on a dark blue fleece blanket with various red, light blue and medium blue daisy shaped flowers of a variety of sizes

Fanjoy with a 3793 vote lead (3.5%) with only 2 polls to go AND voter turnout at 79.1% so far. The movement to oust an unpopular leader always starts local.

I think my biggest fear is that this places Canada where the US was in 2020, and we're gearing up for our own return of P̶a̶l̶p̶a̶t̶i̶n̶e̶ Poilievre (or someone worse and more dangerous).

While I was hoping to have been more wrong, I'll still happily take being wrong + Poilievre losing his seat as a solid consolation prize.

"Trudeau, with the advantage of foresight, seems to be hellbent on pulling a Biden here in Canada. And the fact that he's going to lose - and lose badly - to that crypto-infused ratfucker Poilievre is that makes it all so much worse."

I hope that the conservatives will soon pick someone to replace Pierre #Poilievre.

And I hope that person is someone who thinks #Canada is great and wants to help make it greater, rather than someone who thinks Canada is broken and needs fixing.

Because while there's certainly room to improve, Canada is pretty great.

So, Poilievre...

Poil = hair

Lievre = hare

I know he gets called Peepee, but seems he could also be called Hairhare! 😄

(Sorry, it made me laugh. I know it's naff but this has only just occurred to me so I had to post.)
