The #Gundam #GQuuuuuux ED is stuck in my head real bad rn.

Makes me wonder if this show (not to mention its predecessor) count as #CGDCT 🤔

HUH. New show #mono - looks like #CGDCT with the CT being “photography”. 1st episode being notable for having a 1 year timeskip (from high school entry to graduation of “beloved senpai” (who would have been known for just that year)) in about 30 seconds. Could be amusing, on to the second episode.

Anyways #FoodForTheSoul looks like a fairly standard club-formation plot arc for a #CGDCT anime (#IYKYK) but being set in college is at least refreshing.

From the OP there’s going to be a fifth girl at some point, so there’s at least some effort being made to manage the cast of characters to begin with.

It was worth any price to see Shiomi smile. I’d spent a whole day gathering pretty stones to pay the baker. They were the best I could find. I wish I could have seen her face the next day when she opened her till. I bet it wasn’t as sunny as Shiomi’s.

This is the most recent release ofMoaNA. My review is based on the pre-publication version available to J-Novel Club members.

A greedy merchant and corrupt noble set out to trap Iris into a political marriage. Sarasa won’t stand for that, provided she earns a profit. (A worker is worth their wages.) I think this brings us up to where the anime ended, but as I said in my general review, there is much more to the story than shows up in the anime.

After reading several mediocre to poor series recently, the quality of this one stands out. I look forward to the next volume, which starts prepub streaming later this month.

Free streaming for members ends 24/12/16 so you have plenty of time to read the prior volumes and read this one for free.

Sarasa, a novice alchemist, sets out to live her life and build an alchemist practice in the rural countryside. She is a good-hearted woman who makes many friends and helps them, and the village where she settles, to solve their problems and some of them are dozes, like an attack of a herd of frenzied Flame Grizzlies.

MoaNA is a light-hearted slice of life/CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things) series set in a fantasy world. Generally, I am not fond of books with over-powered characters, but since the plot revolves around the characters and their life, not their fantasy escalated, it works out just fine. There are several f/f relationships and you can read whatever sub-text you want into them.

It’s a delightful read for troubled times and contains a satisfying sub-theme of good people overcoming greedy aristocrats and conniving merchants.

The writing and translation are good, and if you like CGDCT it’s worth reading. The anime of the same name only scratches the surface of the story. On my personal 9 pt. scale, I rate it a 7, which puts it in the closely followed category.

The anime is set in Hiroshima Prefecture’s Onomichi City, where a high school student Nashiko Jippensha was kicked out of her house. Without a place to play with her friends, she learns that the mahjong parlour that her father used to run is now vacant. She fixes the mahjong parlour and turns it into a place where she and her friends can have fun, cook, have tea, and sometimes play mahjong

Previous winter first impressions

Initial Impression:

An original series, that is getting a manga I believe. From the 2 episodes watched, pon no michi is about mahjong. I have no idea how to play mahjong, nor understand the rules. First episode did explain it, but I can’t remember them 😅.

It is quirky, as there is a mahjong phoenix spirit, which the girls aptly name Chonbo. However, only Nashisko can interact with it, I’ll admit it is amusing, having a talking spirit of the game guiding the girls in to playing Mahjong. It does have elements of CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things), like cooking, having tea etc, whilst playing mahjong.

I’ll admit, this does make me think back on how quirky dagashi kashi is, and funny enough, I actually enjoyed dagashi kashi. Something else as well, how cool is that, to have an entire parlour all to yourself, where you can do anything, you want with your friends.

Characters:

As time of this post being published, 4 of the girls will have been introduced (intro shows 5).

Nashiko is the main lead of the group as it revolves around her, she is the one that released chonbo, who speaks in human language to her, whilst chirping to others. I do find Nashiko amusing, she is seen as the assertive / loud one in the group and surprisingly, not just her, her friends as well, picked up on mahjong really quick

Nashiko got kicked out for being too noisy, got a parlour all to herself

Pai & Izumi. Not much is really known about them, besides being supportive of Nashiko. I’ll break the two down.

Pai to me comes across as the sensible one out of the group.

Izumi comes across as the mischievous one in the group. She is the one that named the table Janta.

Riche, is the latest character to be introduced, and she comes from a well-to-do family from the looks of it, a bit spoilt, more sentimental as she enjoyed her time as a kid in Nashiko’s dad parlour.

Would I continue watching?

Yeah, I don’t mind the CGDCT elements or the sheer quirkiness of the show.

There’s a genre of anime i like, usually under slice-of-life or iyashikei, where the main character’s dissatisfied with their life and wants to make a change. They want to make friends and stand out from the crowd. With Yura in this series, it’s her first day at a new school, and she’s failing to make an impression. Maybe joining one of the official school clubs is the solution!

The problem is that all the popular clubs are filled with the popular people, and they’re not exactly welcoming. But there’s always one club on the verge of cancellation, because seniors are graduating and there won’t be enough members to continue and get school funding. They’d love to have Yura as a member, and ply her with sweets.

But it’s always a club that does something weird...

Finished #Gochiusa Bloom earlier today and was reminded as to why this series is one of the best that #CGDCT has to offer. A strong, dynamic cast, unique location, and deep sense of care makes this both hilarious and heartwarming in equal spoonfuls.
