Today I want to give a shout-out to the crowdfunding of two of my favorite people! Björn and Christian have joined forces to celebrate one of their common passions: the WALDZITHER. It is a long forgotten traditional instrument from Germany, which has a super rich and resonant sound, is beautifully decorated, was recently honored as a UNESCO World Heritage and definitely deserves a revival!

They call their duo PLØNK and have recorded German (where Björn is from) and Danish (Christian is Danish) traditional dance tunes as well as own compositions, showing off what the Waldzither can do, when it is in good hands!

I really love hearing them play together, their music is made to move body, heart and mind alike!

A snail (Helix pomatia) on a mossy stone, munching away on a yellow flower fallen from a forsythia bush. Its shell shows that is has been through some rough times, but there is a beautiful growing rim on it as well.

Passing on knowledge about my instrument and spreading my favorite tunes is a big passion of mine - and a very important part of what it means to me to be a FOLK musician. It's about sharing and spreading joy, lifting each other up, nerding around and just having an overall fantastic time together 🎉

“The bell-shaped cittern was a specialty of the city of Hamburg… referred to as the #HamburgerCithrinchen… from which time several examples survive. This particular example is lavishly decorated w ebony foliate decoration on a white ground. The cypress belly has 3 rosettes made of parchment & showing traces of an orig green pigment. The pegbox has the head of a Moorish king.

Today I want to offer a tune called "Nestling" to you! It was co-written by me and my partner Björn and it is about being brave and doing something you have never done before - something that might even have the potential to open a whole new world to you ... you never know! We decided to call it "Nestling" which is the same in English and German: a little bird, still in the nest, gathering the courage to leave it for the first time 🐦

I am playing the nyckelharpa here, Björn is playing a Nordic style cittern. The video was recorded live at Belgian Folkclub Muziekclub 't Ey - hope you enjoy ❤️

Going through random recordings from the last four years or so, and I stumbled across a little atmospheric thingy (40 sec long) with #LowWhistle and #cittern from, apparently 26 September 2020, called "intro". I can't recall if that's intro, as in I need to put stuff behind this someday, or something like a podcast intro. It's probably too long for the latter, and it does seem whole. The only thing I remember about it is that I improvise on the whistle free-rhythm and then played the cittern along to that, so pretty much 2 takes and hardly any editing.
Well, here it is anyway…
