Sorted my concrete beams with the excavator. The jungle had grown over them so I couldn't even see them.

The longest one went under the big trees next to the other one, to eventually become a foundation for the sawmill.

The short ones went here into the firewood store, because the previous ones are full and I got lots more firewood to stack.

Some of the broken ones got moved to the scrapyard, which is what I decided to call the area behind the big barn where I'm moving all the scrap.

A firewood store lean-to behind a barn. It's nicely overgrown with grapes now, which are trained onto some poles. On the left is split firewood stacked to the ceiling on top of concrete beams. New concrete beams have been moved into place, an orange cargo strap still resting on them. On the right between firewood and barn wall is enough space to push a wheelbarrow through. An old sled made from two wooden skis with a crate on top leans against the wall. On the far exit a blue tractor with trailer stands.

No! Bad excavator!

Also cameraphone having a bit of an unfocused moment.

Inside this old doghouse I found a squeaky dog toy and someones favourite woolen jacket.

This one is downright horrible to disassemble, as someone nailed sheet metal to it as the wood started to decay.

Underneath, a couple chunks of asphalt and a lost garden hoe.

Mini excavator has smashed up an old dog house and knocked it over. Dirty old straw is spilling out of the bottom. The photo is completely out of focus.A knitted jacket, dirty and covered in bits of straw. On top, a squeaky dog toy, filthy but partially rubbed clean to reveal a green vegetable shape.

Drainage ditch worked well in yesterdays series of weather fronts.

Picked up some fallen branches and pruned some low hanging ones from those five big trees so they stop smacking me in the face (should've done that before working there).

Noticed one of the five oaks the old man planted there 40 years ago is actually a Linden (Tilia). Hard to tell as their branches are so interlaced. Luckily we didn't name the place 5 oaks or something like that 😆

Fed the branches into #HerrSchröder, who did okay but choked on the leaves once.

The resulting mulch went right back under the same trees to prevent another mud party. Nature's gravel.

It's a really nice space under those five trees now, airy yet with leafy shade.

Just a bunch of steel to clear away now.

A cheap electric branch shredder that has been upgraded with some custom made steel parts. The front cover is removed, exposing the crushing wheel, which is jammed with a bunch of oak leaves from the top.The area between the barns. A powerline passes through on standing concrete poles. A previously cleared and leveled area is now covered with fresh branch and leaf shreddings. There's still a pile of steel and old farm equipment by the power pole. A wood planked barn is at the left.

After the maintenance, I dug.

A steel pipe end peeked out. Regular readers will not be surprised that this led to half the Nordstream pipeline coming out.

Then I dug out the side of the big barn, because it's bottom log is rotting from being below soil level due to 90 years of soil accumulation. Good practice for digging near buildings. Only hit the roof once 😬

Lots more junk came up, steel, chunks of cancer roofing, wire, wood, roots, rubber, plastic pipe, disintegrating plastic sheet, rocks and lots of bricks.

Then I made a ditch for the water from the roof to run off (there's no gutter) and leveled the area. Needs some more infill at the end, but already much better.

Mini excavator in black and yellow lifting a massive steel pipe out of the ground after uncovered it from shallow soil. The pipe continues towards the camera. The side of an old log barn with a boarded up former door is being cleared from old junk, leaves, rocks, etc with a small excavator. The work happens between five large trees growing next to the barn. There's a window in the side of it.The area next to the barn afterwards. There's a white string spanning the length of it to help with the ditch gradient. A shallow ditch is made approximately where the rainwater from the roof drops off and there's a gradient away from the building into the ditch. The rest of the area is relatively level, apart from the far end which still needs filling in with more material. A massive concrete beam is laying on the left with a row of bricks stacked on top. Some of the junk that came up in this job. There's the Nordstream pipeline, a bucket with dirty and decaying plastic sheeting and other junk and a pile of wood scraps and roots. A plastic pipe is visible at the far end.

Another corner of overgrown goat pen chopped down and a lot of mulch to turn the mud pit into some soil.

With the new mownster I can mow the entire cleared area in an hour, rather than 3 days with the push mower, so I'm happy.

Also picked up the chopped hay from mowing a path to the barn and threw it onto a bunch of mud in the back of the yard. Very useful stuff. It quickly decays in place and meanwhile no mud.

Cleared more under the oaks where I want to put a foundation for the future sawmill.

Neighbour came by to grab a piece of plastic pipe, because their water supply kind of burst on them.

A garden area in the front, with lumpy mulched grass spread out on it. In the background a former goat pen, partially overgrown and partially cleared.Close-up of the goat pen. On the right a failed no-dig sunflower bed (one sunflower made it, the rest got eaten), overgrown by weeds. The rest is mowed, including a new triangle with greyish vegetation that will turn green soon, now that is exposed to sunlight. A few plants are in a row further outwards. On the far left, the untouched overgrown goat pen vegetation.

The inherited garden furniture is somewhat lacking.

Luckily I haven't got time to lay around anyways.

A completely knackered folding sun lounger. The frame is broken, hinges rusty, fabric decayed with a huge hole torn through the middle. It's standing outside in mowed grass.

Another corner cleaned up. This was a mess of old discarded branches with new plants growing through them, plus a few bits of steel to keep it interesting.

Stuffed the branches into #HerrSchröder, picked out the steel and then mulched the rest with the lawn mower.

First time the side of the garbarn and power pylon are accessible.

Still more to do, as you can see from the pile of junk 😛

One corner at a time!

#Homestead #Cleanup #Mulch #Barn

A fence gate opens onto a barn, concrete power pylon (standing) and a freshly mulched area of weeds, twigs, small trees und underbrush. On the right there's still an overgrown area with an old harrow and some steel junk.

Two aluminium milk cans sitting on a bench in front of a yellow house. One about 15 liters the other about 25. They have attached lids which need a new rubber seal.
