Did the annual engine service while I was at it. Maybe the fancy new STOU 10W-30 will be a little easier to crank in cold weather.

This machine is a breeze to service, the side panels are quick-detachable, easy access to everything and there are even valves and drain hoses for bleeding the fuel system and draining coolant. Only the oil filler cap is a little crowded in, best to take the air filter off, which is however only one bolt.

Will do the bottom service when it's a little warmer, as I doubt the grease would come out of the gun today.

Side of a small tractor engine. There's a lift pump with a manual lever on the right side of it, a valve with a tap to open the bleed screw and even a bleed hose that goes to the bottom of the engine where it is easy to put a container underneath to catch the fuel.

Oil dipstick held up in front of an engine, halfway covered with fresh oil and therefore somewhat hard to see.

Brownish coolant draining out of an open plastic tap at the bottom of the radiator tank into a jerrycan through a funnel cut from a plastic bottle. A transparent overflow hose goes the same way in case of overfilling.

Stupid winter.

Note to self: Just because the air temperature reads only -9 doesn't mean all the stuff out in the barn isn't still supercooled :blobcattableflip:

Got the tractor running with the diesel heater blowing hot air on the oil filter for half an hour. Went out to fetch some wood and it died. Diesel-gel blocking the filter. Despite maximum dose of anti-gel additive in the tank. Should've heated the tank as well 🤦‍♂️

Old sailor trick when your tank is full of crud, pull the hose off the filter and stick it into a bottle of good fuel.

Got my wood but probably should've just stayed home instead. 😩

A small Kubota 7000 tractor in orange. It looks in great condition and stands on a bunch of flattened snow. There's minimal casing, just a hood and some covers for the rear wheel. The seat lacks a backrest too.

Iseki got a shot of winter diesel additive and a new fuel filter, as the other day after a super cold night I found some jelly in the filter.

Ran it a bit to mix in the additive, then drove up and down the steep forestry road to clear it and hauled up one scrawny little alder for a test, which I barely managed as it was so slippery, and that's with 4WD and differential lock.

Although that was the tree the mower man knocked over in summer, so it was extremely heavy as it was still full of frozen sap.

Guess I need some chains or something. I'll fix up the log wheels I made a bit and try again with those, might work better than skidding.

At least one log is done 😆

Meanwhile I'd fired up the tractor (after leaving the battery on the charger in the warm house over night, it did it on its own, eventually).

Decoupled the trailer and made a new road through the snowdrifts by driving up and down a couple times before fetching the trailer again whose little tyres and low axle could now get through to the barn with the old firewood we want to use.

Some creature has been in the barn meanwhile, leaving footprints in the snow that the blizzard blew in. It's slowly sublimating away without getting anything wet 👍

«El lobby de los partidarios del acuerdo siempre fue más poderoso que el de las más de 400 organizaciones de pequeños agricultores, ecologistas o sindicalistas a ambos lados del Atlántico que lo rechazan. Si pensamos en los recursos que generaciones de políticos, empresarios, miembros de movimientos sociales u ONGs han invertido en él desde 1999, se trata realmente del “mayor acuerdo de todos los tiempos”. Desgraciadamente, también es uno de los peores, al menos si se aspira a una política comercial justa y ecológica.
En esencia, se trata de un proyecto neocolonial. Si finalmente se ratifica, como todo indica, habrá pocos ganadores y muchos perdedores. Las empresas europeas, sobre todo las alemanas, serán las que se benefician: fabricantes de automóviles y maquinaria, grupos químicos y farmacéuticos, inclusive viticultores. En los cinco países del Mercosur, los poderosos protagonistas del agronegocio, al que ningún gobierno puede ignorar, ya están festejando. La clase media alta de Buenos Aires o São Paulo podrá elegir en el futuro entre una mayor diversidad de productos lácteos o vehículos SUV importados directamente de Europa que serán mucho más baratos que antes.
Las modestas normas medioambientales que los europeos querían imponer durante el gobierno del negacionista climático Jair Bolsonaro se han retirado frente a las críticas de “neocolonialismo verde” de Lula. En las últimas rondas de negociaciones, Brasil logró obtener períodos de transición más largos para las industrias automovilísticas en Argentina y Brasil o mejoras en las compras gubernamentales: ya no será necesario abrir todas las licitaciones a las empresas europeas. También rechazó las disposiciones legalmente vinculantes para la protección del medio ambiente o los derechos humanos.
La tendencia a la reprimarización continúa y recuerda a la división internacional del trabajo en la época colonial. Sindicalistas de Argentina y Brasil critican ese ataque a sus industrias, que costará muchos miles de puestos de trabajo. (Vale recordar que en su última decisión como presidente, Alberto Fernández esbozó este argumento para rechazar un acuerdo todavía más asimétrico). «
