#dae does anyone use else DAE files? Are you a #collada user? Should the format continue to receive support in spite of the #Khronos Group's abandonment?
I’m struggling to understand how a #kml file that links with #collada works (inside a kmz). If the model in kml specifies a location, is that used as original for the meshes in the .dae?
And what unit is the data in the .dae? Metric mm, cm or m? Or arch seconds?
#GoogleEarth crashes if I try to load the files due to their sizes, and my attempt and hand rolling one loads fine, but no geometry is shown where I can find it..
example demo of external model loading in real time. Or as I like to call it: "Scene Appending"
@nafergo The #COLLADA and also the #X3D file format allows to add custom structured metadata fields (XML) within the model file itself.
If you need (semantic) annotation of parts of the 3D model, then probably a "Repository Infrastructure" as proposed by the #3D-COFORM project would be the way to go (e.g. see http://dx.doi.org/10.2312/VAST/VAST12/041-048).
