This is from the last Saturday Tales comic that I did and looking over the series I remember getting so frustrated that everything felt unfinished and unpolished. I pushed myself into unfamiliar and uncomfortable territory where I learned a lot but was never happy with.

One of my many many projects is to rework this series into a standalone-ish graphic novel. I got enough content to make the page count but it needs a complete story arc.

How the weekend project turned out.

I found it a bit too easy to go over board or not do enough. Finding that middle ground was a challenge but still quicker than doing a digital ink wash.

Also this is suppose to be the comic with the unhinged robots. What am I doing?

Weekend project. Trying to figure out how I'm going to color this comic.

I did a bunch of two color combo studies that I probably won't use because I don't understand color theory all that well but I kind of like what I got going on here. I also did a digital ink wash version that looked nice but took ages to complete and I don't have time for that.

We are inside the train compartment with the android. We see they are actually looking at their reflection in the window. Panel 4 we see a box sitting next to the android on the bench seat. Panel 5, the last panel, is a close up of the android's face looking down at the box. Their face is cast in dramatic shadow because they are looking away from the light from outside.

Eleven more thumbnail pages. If I was following a story circle I think this would be through stage four or five? I never could figure out where the final boss confrontation is just before that at the "great loss" bit in the Hero's Rhombus or whatever.

Still rewriting my Halloween comic. The process has been a mixture of loose outlining and thumbing informing each other and various edits. I just hit a point where I need to work more on the outline to continue thumbing but Saturday morning is for drawing. Time to switch projects.

I think the issue that I've had with social media this entire time is that I'm looking for a type of creative community that only ever existed in that brief window when message boards were at their hight.

I want to find a community of creators that focuses on the craft of comics. I'm in a ton of communities with creators trying to figure out how to make a living from their work. I have a lot of non art related technical knowledge to share but it all one way.

I like this panel from my Home & Away short comic. I like to do short montage comics between bigger stories to give myself a bit of a break but also to illustrate the passage of time. It allows for little character development moments that might not have a place in more focused stories.

Over the decades I've created a cast of pulp adventure characters. Think Hanna-Barbera Jonny Quest (or more accurately Venture Bros.) than superheroes. I've been meaning to do a proper drawing of all the characters. Some of the mini panels here are older drawings subbing in as line art.

A collage 14 mini illustration of cartoon characters.

Here is my second attempt on figuring out the colors for this comic. The process is quicker and some of the colors need a bit of tweaking to harmonize better but I still don't know. I might just go back to a limited pallet for this one. I just don't know what those colors will be. I've done blue, purple, and pink with yellow as the secondary color a lot. Green and orange would be weird choices with the beach location later in the comic. Maybe an earth tone?

I was thinking last night and planned out a little scene between Ahko (my little blue elft) and her friend Domico and today I actually sketched it out!

It ended up at 3 pages and it's probably a bit clunky but it's just thumbs so that's fine.

I haven't done too many comics, I have a bad habit of putting them off, so I'm pretty pleased with myself for getting this little bit done
