Two prisoners in pillory with another tied to whipping post below and a man with whip, at New Castle County Courthouse in Delaware [ca. 1900]

1 photographic print.

New Castle County is the largest county in Delaware, USA, covering approximately 505 square miles (1,308 km²). It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, bordering Pennsylvania to the north and west, and Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, to the northwest. The county's name originates from William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, who was also a Quaker and a prominent figure in Delaware's early history.

The image is a historical photograph in black and white. It appears to depict a scene of public punishment or execution, as suggested by the wooden stocks in which two individuals are bound. The stocks are elevated on a platform, and the individuals are secured with their arms and legs restrained to the structure. The setting seems to be outdoors, with a stone wall in the background and some vegetation visible above it.

There are a few onlookers in the background, observing the scene. One person is standing near the stocks, while another is seated on a chair, and a third person is standing further back. The attire of the onlookers suggests the photograph is from a historical period, likely the 19th century, based on the clothing styles.

The overall tone of the image is somber and reflective of a time when such public punishments were common. The photograph captures a moment of social and legal consequence, with the focus on the individuals in the stocks and the onlookers observing the scene.

Appellate Court Building, New York City
"One of the most recent specimens of modern architecture in public buildings is the completion of the Appellate Court Building, New York City. This beautiful structure is built of white marble and ornamented with statuary and bas-relief."--printed on verso. s.l.

The image depicts a black and white photograph of an ornate classical building with prominent columns on its facade, suggesting it may be a significant public or institutional structure such as a library, museum, court house, or government office. The architecture features large windows framed by pediments supported by corinthian columns, which is characteristic of neoclassical design. Statues are visible atop the pediment and in niches on the building's exterior walls.

In front of the building, there appears to be a paved street with several individuals who seem dressed in early 20th-century clothing styles—men wearing hats typical of that era and women possibly wearing long coats or dresses. A few people are walking while others stand still. The presence of trees suggests this photograph might have been taken on an urban street lined with greenery.

There is a sense of quiet activity, as no one seems to be in motion, creating the impression of a calm moment captured in time outside such a historical and possibly notable building.

The photograph depicts a historic building labeled "New Court House" in New York City from an old postcard by I.J. Stern of Brooklyn. The court house features grand neoclassical architecture with prominent columns and statues adorning the facade, which gives it a stately appearance reflective of early 20th-century design. It is situated on what appears to be a street lined with lamps or bollards along its frontage. There's an overcast sky suggesting either dawn or dusk lighting conditions in this black-and-white image. The text at the bottom indicates that the postcard was published by I.J. Stern, Brooklyn N.Y., and bears the number "7T."

The image depicts an old postcard featuring a drawing of the New Court House located at 25th Street and Madison Avenue in New York City. The building is illustrated with neoclassical architecture, characterized by its grand façade adorned with large columns supporting a pediment decorated with statues or sculptures that resemble figures such as lions or mythical beings. Above this illustration, there are ornamental streetlights on either side of the drawing, which adds to the vintage aesthetic typical for postcards from earlier times.

The coloration is muted and appears aged, suggesting it's an antique piece likely dating back several decades. The text "NEW COURT HOUSE." in bold letters is prominently displayed at the bottom center of the card with additional information such as its number (NO. 301) and a note attributing Arthur Stahlecker Inc., New York, indicating possibly where or whom it was created for.

The overall condition appears to be well-preserved despite being an aged item, which is typical given that postcards were often collected as souvenirs by travelers during the time of their popularity.

The image depicts an aerial view of a bustling urban area, showcasing prominent historical architecture and daily life. In the foreground stands a large, ornate arch with intricate carvings and vibrant red tones that suggests it is likely from Barcelona's Arco de Triunfo. Surrounding this focal point are various transport modes including horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, tramcars indicative of early 20th-century transportation in Europe.

The background reveals a large neoclassical structure with multiple towers and domes which could be identified as the Palacio de Justicia (Palace of Justice), another significant building from Zürich. The surrounding area is filled with trees, street lamps, benches for pedestrians to rest, and urban greenery providing contrast against the concrete structures.

The color palette ranges from earthy browns and greens typical of cityscapes during that era to the rich reds and oranges of the arch, creating a vivid visual tapestry. The overall impression is one of historical significance combined with everyday life in an early 20th-century European metropolis.

The image shows a vintage postcard featuring an illustration of the New Court House in Washington, D.C. The postcard is presented against a plain background.

The postcard depicts a classical building with a symmetrical facade that includes a large central entrance flanked by smaller entrances. Atop the building, there's a dome and what appears to be a bell tower with a bell. The architecture of the building suggests it could be from an earlier period in American history.

The illustration style is detailed, capturing the architectural details of the courthouse accurately. In the foreground, there's text that reads "New Court House" and "Washington, D.C." indicating the location depicted on the postcard. The overall appearance of the image suggests it is a historical document from the late 19th or early 20th century, judging by the style of the illustration and the text used.

The bottom of the postcard includes a small inscription that appears to say "Postmaster," which would be the address where this postcard was sent from. The image does not contain any additional people or objects, as it is focused on the courthouse illustration.
