Update on this thread: I have since #deconverted from #christianity and am now an #atheist / #agnostic. Sorry for using this line of reasoning for morality.

A mastodon thread between myself (@tkk13909) and another user (@blackard) about morality. The messages from blackard are missing but mine are still there.

The first message reads as follows: "@blackard No, I believe that everyone does have a conscience (some more than others) and I am not an exception but what I am saying is that there is at when you get to the bottom of it, God is the basis. God is love >> I should be like God as I was made by Him >> It would not be like God to steal from my neighbor >> I will not steal from my neighbor whether I would like to or not"
The second message reads as follows: "@blackard If that were my only reason, however, I would not be a better person than someone who simply finds it inconvenient to attempt a robbery. What I'm talking about is having a basis for morality that is not subject to the whims of humanity."

I was watching some videos of this weekend of individuals who'd left their beliefs behind and it made me realize that it's been 40 years since I made the realization that none of that stuff made any sense to me.
