I haven't seen any Trekkies mention it but there's a very important reason Jake Sisko's unpublished book about his father is called "Anselm".

Saint Anselm was the theologian who came up with the ontological argument for the existence of god. And it ties in to the episode's themes.

The ontological argument is that

1. God is perfect
2. Imagine a list of all possible attributes of god
3. The definition of perfect is that on such a list, whenever two possible attributes are in conflict, he has the better one
4. Existing is better than non-existence
5. Therefore, God exists

Obviously, Jake doesn't think of his father as perfect. But he's exploring what it means for his father to be with the prophets from the perspective of imagination. He knows that his father is going to find a way to make the better thing true.

It's also a lens the prophets themselves used in Far Beyond the Stars. Benny Russell was a way for Sisko to come to understand himself and his role in the universe. Russell is forced to imagine the attributes of an ideal Benjamin Sisko and chooses to insist on the better one at any cost.

I Am Watching ‘Star Trek’s ‘Deep Space 9’, Genetically Engineered Friends of Dr. Bashir, Lauren & Patrick, What Challenges Do They have?

I was born into & will die with Learning Challenges (in- language processing & short & long term memories), have earned degree in SLD, many certifications, including VE & ESE, from the most respected higher educational school in Fl., whatever that is worth, & facilitated learning in Elementary schools’-high schools’-adult education school’s ESE & Etc. classrooms. So I understand that challenges can be extremely hard identify-prove & everywhere, I think everyone has a challenge, to some degree.

Yet I cannot understand the challenges that genetic engineered friends of Dr. Bashir character Lauren (played by Hillary Shepard) & Patrick (played by Michael Keenan).
The only thing that comes close to challenges I see in- Lauren having is higher attraction drive to men, than the average person &
Patrick having is he is easily manipulated-to easy to go along with others, especially by Jack.

Lauren thing seems like UPN censored away the writers from going to a real challenge & forced them to her being just higher attraction drive to men, than the average person, which is not a challenge.
&
Patrick thing is not even close to being a challenge at all, maybe, lack confidence or whatever, but not a challenge, while Lauren is also not a challenge, I can understand that if the writers were not censored away from her being sex addiction, then that would been a challenge.

deep space 9 season 3 episode 11 "past tense" hits me once again with its predictions of the 2020s

reposted (with permission) from tumblr @ skybson

(first gif in a gifset) julian bashir and benjamin sisko, from star trek deep space 9, talking while they walk in a dirty street filled with tents, fire and smoke. benjamin sisko is a black man with very short black hair, using a black and red uniform. julian bashir is thin, brown man with medium short black hair, using the same uniform, but in a black and blue version.

benjamin says (visible in the subtitles): it's not that they don't give a damn, doctor. it's that they've given up.benjamin continues speaking: the social problemas they face seem too enormous to deal with.julian answers: that only makes things worse.julian continues: causing people to suffer because you hate them is terrible.

I think that #StrangeNewWorlds season 2 is probably the best #StarTrek since #DeepSpace9 finished. Really superbly put together.

I was particularly impressed by 2x07 ‘Those Old Scientists’ and 2x09 ‘Subspace Rhapsody’, which somehow managed to put a real plot and character development into episodes that could easily have been played entirely for laughs.

Huh, I don't actually know what "Kon Ma" means in Bajoran, but by coincidence, the Toki Pona reading "spirit of the land" is pretty apt for a resistance group.

We finished watching #StarTrek #DeepSpace9 today. I had never actually seen it before, I don't think it was on any of the OTA networks initially. Plus, I think I fell into the whole "it just seems a little weird" crowd.

However.

Now that I've watched (and mostly paid attention to...) it, I must say that it's my favorite of all the Trek's, and that I think Garak is also probably my favorite of all the Trek characters. Crazy.

Now just to watch "What we left behind".
