Watching The Orville and several thoughts. Definitely love/hate feelings. So much borrowed from every space ship and crew ever made (they have a Data, a varied and conflicted crew, a common enemy, and a lot of interpersonal relationships) but the Earth in the 2000's references fall so flat you could slip them under a door. They had clips of Friends??? But I accepted Captain Mercer has a Kermit on his desk ...
The first few episodes were nearly torture, but it looked great, graphic wise, and attention to detail, etc., except for the HDTV clarity of poorly applied to prosthetics.
World creating isn't easy, so I kept at it.
It got a lot better in later episodes and though they broke "prime directive" like 5 times, fast and loose is ok with decent writing, which I feel it has.
The Moclan characters are the most interesting. And the Deflectors episode was really well done.
I'm sure the anti woke mob hates this show, but I don't care.
