At #UNGA80, Nigeria secured a historic win.
The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, officially announced that Nigeria will host Deep Learning Indaba 2026, the annual gathering of Africa’s machine learning and AI community, for the very first time. Data Science Nigeria will serve as the local organising partner.
The announcement was backed by strong presence from across policy and industry. Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, the Executive Director of Galaxy Backbone, Dr Ibrahim Olayanju and other national leaders alongside representatives from Microsoft, Google, Nvidia and more.
This milestone is beyond event hosting; It’s a bold statement of how Nigeria is stepping forward to lead Africa’s AI future with global endorsement and support.
Deep Learning Indaba 2026 will bring together the brightest minds in AI, building collaboration and setting the pace for the continent’s digital transformation.
