Some Monday inspiration - the 14th century octagon tower at Ely Cathedral. As the height and width would not have supported a stone vault, the tower was constructed in wood following the collapse of the central Norman tower in 1322. 📸 My own. #MedievalMonday #ElyCathedral

Ely Cathedral photographed through the window of a train en route from King's Lynn to London Kings Cross. This is particularly clear image of the cathedral, including its unique feature, the octagonal tower (which dates from the 14th century, somewhat later than the rest of the building).

À l’intérieur de la cathédrale d’Ely, ce sont les vitraux qui donnent le ton 🌈⛪
La pierre est immense, presque austère… puis la lumière traverse les verrières et tout s’anime : couleurs, scènes, reflets sur les arcs.
Et au-dessus, le plafond peint ajoute une touche inattendue, comme un long ruban d’images qui guide le regard jusqu’au fond de la nef.
Un lieu où l’on marche doucement, parce que tout invite à lever les yeux. 😉
