Review: Skilhunt H200 - an all-purpose right-angle headlamp with white and red
The Skilhunt H200 is a midsize right-angle flashlight and headlamp with two white LEDs and one red, powered by an 18650 size Li-ion rechargeable battery recharged internally with a USB-magnetic cable. The right-angle light is perhaps the most versatile category of flashlight since it can be used as a handheld flashlight, a headlamp, clipped to gear or clothing, or attached to surfaces with its magnetic tailcap. Someone who wants one flashlight for all use cases will be well served by a light like this, as long as none of those use cases involves illuminating things much past 100m.

Understanding the #tariffs on #flashlights and what impact they should have on actual sales price
Do #led #flashlights lose their overall brightness over time? I’m sort of concerned too about using any “turbo” setting that drives the LED as hard as I can.

Review: Convoy 14500 Shipping Light - the best value in flashlights today
The Convoy 14500 Shipping Light is included free of charge with the purchase of a 14500 battery from Convoy. It's a great value - one might even say an infinite value.
Emitter swap: Luminus SFT40 4000K high-CRI into a Skilhunt M200 v3
Kaidomain sold a handful of these LEDs last fall and I made the mistake of buying only two. Rumor has it they were engineering samples, and may never be produced in large quantities.
Unlike the 3000K model, efficiency is not much worse than the low-CRI SFT40. I see 1400 lumens from this flashlight, and 250m throw. The increased throw over the original 519A is most welcome. Color rendering index is 92, and R9 (deep red rendering) is 71, which are a bit lower than the 3000K. That's probably responsible for the higher efficiency.
I noticed a broken bond wire after I took this picture. I'm glad it has extras.
Arbitrary List of Popular Flashlights - Spring Equinox 2025 Edition
Happy Spring Equinox!
In honor of Spring Equinox, I've made an updated list of popular flashlights. It's alawys a good day for another flashlight, and I have some good candidates here.
I know, not exactly a tragedy to have to deal with, but it is irksome. #edc #gear #flashlights
Meanwhile, a cheaper brand like Rovyvon uses standard USB-C chargers and in some cases can use AAA along with an integral rechargeable battery. I don’t want to be stuck at my middle-of-nowhere farm in New Mexico waiting a week or more (Amazon, for example, averages 2 weeks shipping time) for a replacement charger when I can grab a standard USB-C and plug a light in or pop in a commonly found battery like 18650, CR123A, AA, or AAA and be good to go. #edc #gear #flashlights
There’s a few reasons to not like Olight flashlights, but the thing that gets me is that they use proprietary chargers (sometimes), and their proprietary chargers do not work across all their flashlights. Thus, the charger for the Baton 4 can’t be used to charge the Odin or the Seeker 4. Even if one takes apart the flashlight to charge the batteries, they are odd sizes: 16340 or 21700, not the more common 18650 or CR123A seen in other higher voltage devices. #edc #gear #flashlights
Review: Sofirn SC13 - a budget EDC light with great color quality and USB-C charging
The Sofirn SC13 is a very inexpensive pocket flashlight powered by an 18350 size rechargeable battery with a USB-C port on the flashlight body for charging and a magnetic tailcap for hands-free use.

NLD: red
After reading the post from @solrize regarding potential benefits of far-red light on cellular respiration, I bought a Convoy S2+ with the 660nm Luminus SST-20. It's red. Very red.
The Vapcell N40 18650 battery has impressive capacity
I tested this N40 I bought from Convoy at 1A on the Opus and got 3901 mAh. I expected a bit less since advertised capacity is usually at very low current, so I am pleased with this result.

I have three #flashlights with a “turbo” brightness mode that basically pushes the #LED very hard - once it hits thermal limit it will dim the element down.
I’m wondering if and how quickly this will kill the LED even with it automatically dimming after heat builds up. I only use it when I really need that “110%”.
I’m also talking about flashlights with good regulating and protection circuits - someone had a LED light with a turbo mode that was used by holding a button down and it had no protection - ended up melting part of the flashlight.
