Progress! My carbon arrows are finished, too. I'm curious to see how my compound bow copes with them. It's my first attempt; so far, I've only made wooden arrows.

Arrow-making progress: a dozen finished wooden arrows, already given their first coat of linseed oil. After 24 hours they’ll get another coat and then they’re good to go!
Next week I’ll move on to the carbon arrows – those are much easier to put together.
The rest has finally arrived, so the plan for the weekend is set: building arrows and documenting the process for an article, from splining to gluing.
The first of two deliveries has just arrived, including a fletching jig, fletching tape, carbon shaft vanes (feathers), and a digital grain scale. The wooden shaft feathers, shafts, points, nocks, and taper tool are still missing.
I'm a bit disappointed that the announced helical setting isn't included in the fletching jig. The first arrows will probably have straight feathers. You have to work with what you have.
I have just finished preparing for the arrow-building process, i.e. deciding which tools are necessary for making wooden and carbon arrows, and which steps are involved. This is only the first step: preparation. I will start building once I have received all the materials.

I would like to start making arrows for my 40# Falco Triumph flat-arm longbow and my ~50# Hoyt Ignite 2015 compound bow. I already have a good fletching jig. Do you have any good experience with determining the right spine values for arrows? Are there manufacturer specifications and/or essential tools? Answers in German or English are welcome 🙂
The longbow works well with wooden arrows, but the Hoyt requires carbon arrows. I don't know if this is important.
During winter break, I played #leagues in #osrs and had a blast. Upon returning to the normal Old School game, however, I quickly got frustrated with the low XP rates and the overall grindiness.
Since I read that #runescape (ie. rs3) had better XP rates, I decided to give it a shot, even though everyone on the Internet seemed to hate it.
Turns out, I really enjoyed #runescape and I switched over to that game as a #GIM. Last night, I achieved my first 99 (ie. max) in #fletching!
I spent an very enjoyable evening teaching people how to make #wooden #arrows. Basically fitting piles and nocks and #fletching shafts. I even had handouts and everything.
It was really good to pass on the result of my trial and error and Youtube learning. I think everyone liked it.
Spent the afternoon in my #shed on my #allotment. I was #fletching some new #arrows for my #longbow. I even managed to do spliced fletchings, which look really smart and dandy.
Spilling a whole bunch of superglue / crazyglue on an already messy workbench, then realising that the bottle of debonder had fallen into the most inaccessible place possible.
Not a good start to #fletching some new #arrows for #archery
I think the new #arrows will be ok. Bit annoyed with those two stray ones to be honest. They even whistle as they spin.
Finished #fletching a dozen arrows. Bright orange shafts. Orange nocks. 6" banana profile helical feathers. Orange barred cock feathers and red hen feathers.
They look great. No idea what they shoot like yet.
I have been making new #arrows this week. Bought the shafts as life is too short to make them.
2 x coats of sanding sealer
3 x coats of Goblin Snot flouroescent orange paint (best brand name ever)
2 x coats of thin water based varnish.
I glued on the nocks and piles this morning.
Next is cutting feathers and gluing them on. 6" 'banana' shaped feathers. Going for helical flèches for the first time ever too. Got a new jig for that.
Quick visit to the #allotment and #shed this evening.
Pulled out a large sapling / small tree that had cunningly disguised itself as a blackcurrant bush. Trimmed the real #blackcurrant bushes and the #blackberry thug. Pulled out #horsetail and #bindweed
#painted some #arrow shafts a fetching fluorescent orange with Goblin Snot paint (best brand name ever). They will need another coat or two. The two or three coats of varnish on top of that to get them nice and smooth. Tried out my new helical #fletching jig on a broken arrow shaft. That went well too. Well, until I noticed I put the feather on backwards.
Been #fletching #arrows this morning. Sat in the shed. Working away slowly whilst listening to a podcast. Just what I needed.
Also, I carved, and fletched another arrow today from some decking timber (some form of eucalyptus i think). The new arrow (darker one in the photo) is a bit heavier than the australian ash arrow i previously made. Possibly i should have shaved a bit more wood off before fletching.
It works though, and rotates nicely in flight.
I am now out of cockatoo feathers, so if I want to make more I’ll need to source more feathers.
I punked it. #arrow #feather #fletching
I’m trying something a bit different this time. Gull feathers again but I’m not going to trim the outer edge. Except maybe the pale one just to beaten it up a bit. #fletching #feather #arrow
