Finally finished what I started last weekend: assembling a Flying V replica kit by Harley Benton! A bit of IKEA, Lego and "little luthier" altogether, really fun. After tuning the pickups height a bit, it really rocks 💪🎸

On this day in 1958 Gibson patents Flying V guitars.

Responding to slumping sales after the Fender Stratocaster release in 1954. Gibson president Ted McCarty called on his design team for a line of "modernist" guitars .

“I told them what I wanted and asked them to make me some sketches,” McCarty told Andre Duchossoir. “We chose the ones we liked, and then we called in (guitar foreman) Larry Allers and John Huis and asked if they could make them. You can design anything on paper, but building and producing it is a different matter.”

bought a cheap #flyingV style #guitar from #thomann.
#frets were a disaster, but I had already built in New Electronics before I noticed.
So tried some fret leveling. Not bad for a first try.
8 of the 24 frets where too high
