@nora Your blobs for some reason brought this one to mind. I got my hands on some broken SW FR and painstakingly pieced it together over 8x8 black. It was a fun little bowl, though it was not cost effective, for sure.

Tomorrow is the last glass class of the session and our instructor sent out a nice "have your decisions made before getting here" email.

My kiln carving pattern is ready to go, no thought needed tomorrow, just trace & cut!

My blank is adventurine blue, and I thought of doing an iris, but I don't seem to have any good reference shots, but I do have pics of balloon flowers and that will work nicely.

(I bumped into it right before I took the shot, the veins aren't that messy.)

A cardboard cutout of a balloon flower - it is a flower with 5 petals that has a star shape but the petals are nicely rounded and look a bit balloon like.

This will be traced onto thick fiber paper, and then a sheet of glass will be placed over it, and when it is fired, the glass will melt over the paper and leave the pattern in the glass.

I am just so happy with the result.

OK, I love it! With all the blue shards I had, was thinking "ocean" and I see the sea kelp in the green and the sun filtering through at the top and it's just what I wanted. 😍

And I could grind down the waves on the sides, but I really like it the way it is - there is an organic feel to it that I really love.

Also, REALLY hard to photograph!! Video in next post so you can see how the color changes with the iridescent pieces.

The fired light leak from the last post. It is varying shades of blue shards up and down with space in between. In the lower half, the spaces are filled with green frit (ground glass) and in the upper half, the spaces are filled with pale yellow frit. The yellow fruit came out almost clear - which is OK! I was feeling “ocean” with all the blues and wanted the green at the bottom as “sea kelp” and the yellow at the top as light filtering through, and it works!

OK, definitely need to take advantage of open studio time more often, just two hours of quietly cutting up glass was very nice.

Got a quick tutorial on the little grinder - that is far less involved than I'd thought - next session will be smoothing up the stuff I cut today.

A plastic container lined with white paper towels, filled with blue glass cabochons. They started as a stack of blues and clear glass, were fired into a "puddle", smashed up into bits, and then fired again, where they became rounded and pretty.

Light leak was in fact this week, next week is kiln carving.

My cabochon pieces came out gorgeous - thought I got a pic of them, but I'll have that next week, left them because I may be using them next week.

Rather than do a single sheet with a crack, decided to do my light leak with my scraps.

Those big chunks turned into this beauty! Did some grinding on some sharp spots around the edges, and it goes back in for a polish firing, then I think we're going to slump them if we want.

The pattern bars fused up and then we cut them up to make plates. Used the tile saw! Terrifying but cool! We could use both bars for an 8" plate or one for a 6" plate. I went with the 6" cause I am saving the other bar for...IDK, something.

We needed 13 ounces of glass and I was just shy of it, so I threw a couple of the smashed pieces in. All the same colors, should be neat when it's done.

The pattern bars from the last photo were cut into 1 inch chunks and placed in a 6 inch circular mold. They'll be fired into a plate. There are 4 chunks from the puddle-smashed-into-pieces from the last post that are in there as well.

Felt a little off going to glass class what with the republic crumbling and the dishwasher leaking, but all the more reason to spend a couple hours out of my own head. (Dishwasher is fine.)

The square stack from last week got smashed up, woohoo!! (Forgot to get a picture of the pre-smashed puddle.)

These are going to be pretty!!

An assortment of smashed up glass that will be fired into cabochons. There are varying sizes, but they're all from the same stack of puddled glass, and are different shades of blue with clear glass in between.

Art therapy Sundays are back, aka, glass class!! Today was just a lot of cutting & gluing, still fun tho.

The square stack is going to be full fused into a puddle and smashed (woohoo!) and then the strips are going to be tack fused and we're going to use the saw on them next week and make cool things.

My theme for this class is apparently "I l Like Blue"

A 3 inch by 3 inch stack of glass. It will be fused at a high temperature into a puddle, then smashed up and fired again to be used for other things. The colors are an iridescent blue, clear, turquoise blue, clear, turquoise blue, clear, and iridescent blue

A 1 inch by 10 inch stack of 8 pieces glass that will be tack fused (fired to stick together but hold shape) and then cut up and used in other projects. The colors are iridescent blue, turquoise blue, and deep royal blue, separated by clear sheets.
