lemme first say that CBF is still technically not allowed on the leaderboards (i think) so do research and use it responsibly
anyway. cbf on linux is weird because Wine/Proton (the thing that allows GD to run on linux) does not allow/support clicking between frames, in other words the thing cbf needs to be able to do in order to work is unsupported. as a result, when CBF is enabled, most (all?) inputs with the mouse, keyboard or keypad will be either completely normal or not do anything in game (at least not jumping, unsure about the rest)
buuuut apparently there's a workaround included in the mod! when i installed CBF it was on by default. check the CBF mod's settings, at the very bottom, for an option labeled Wine Workaround. it can be disabled and then the game will play normally, but then there's no CBF
so! make sure it's enabled. exit out of the game and open a terminal (don't be afraid! it's just a few commands). then do the following commands:whoami will output the current logged in user's username. take note of its output. if the current user's username is already known, this isn't necessary$ whoami
then enter the admin shell$ su
then in the admin shell, run this usermod command. usermod is a tool used to manage users. this command adds the user to the input group, which is what CBF uses for the workaround. <username> is the username from before# usermod -aG input <username>
!! always be careful when running commands in su or using sudo (or any command at all really) !! please research and use trustworthy sources

and it's done! log out and back in, or mayyyyybe do a reboot, then go inside GD and if CBF and the workaround are enabled then it should be working!
i did this but i don't use cbf on rated levels. i prefer for it to be officially allowed by robtop first, that'll probably be when either 2.21 or 2.3 comes out and rob's own version of CBF is in the game
