Latria is handily my favorite zone in any Fromsoft game. It may as well have fallen straight out of the Plato zone. Undiminished. Perfect.

The Archstone of the Queen provides unnatural passage from The Nexus to Latria, the land of her Ivory Tower, a once idyllic kingdom fallen first to human betrayal and then to the all-consuming colorless fog. The long path to the Latrian throne begins far below it, in a prison complex, cold and pale, from which the wails of the tortured damned dissolve into the void, unheard.

The prison's inmates, rendered human husks by endless trauma, persist-- blindly pawing at any warmth to be found in the darkness. The Queen's traitorous husband, lost to hatred and then to the fog, keeps them alive through unnatural magics and subsists on their suffering, swallowing it down like a hog at the trough.

Eldritch jailers stalk the halls of the Prison of Hope, psionic bells pinched in twitching fingers. Abyssal demons summoned by the fog and commanded by the true, unseen master of Latria.

The depraved evil of the Prison Hope is as spiritually suffocating as its stench. One cannot help but ponder, passing through its bowels, if man was ever truly redeemable, even before the coming of the colorless fog.
