My happy place. Thinking of the Lancrigg Hotel, just outside of Grasmere. (2025) Late afternoon sun.

The image depicts a picturesque landscape featuring rolling green hills, vibrant trees in various shades of autumnal hues, and an expansive lake. In the center is a small island with what appears to be some buildings or structures on it. The sky has soft clouds suggesting either early morning or late afternoon light. There are scattered clusters of houses amidst the fields surrounding the water body, indicative of rural settlement patterns in England's Lake District region during approximately 1890-1900 period as noted by its origins from Grasmere, Red Bank.

The image depicts a picturesque landscape featuring a large, serene lake surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. In the foreground, there is a dirt path leading to what appears to be a cliff edge or high vantage point overlooking the scene. The middle ground shows a variety of trees in different shades of green, with some patches of open land visible through their branches.

The background is dominated by mountains or hills that fade into soft outlines against an overcast sky. On the lake's surface, there are several boats scattered at various distances from one another, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. A small town or village can be seen in the far distance on the right side of the image, nestled among the lower slopes.

The overall color palette consists of muted earth tones with hints of greenery and a yellowish hue that suggests either early morning light or late afternoon ambiance. The photo has an aged look to it, indicating its historical context as part of "Views of England" collection by Loener Photochrom.

Daylight, water, and a bit of scenery. Here's a casual phone pic from today's dogwalk.

Blues and greens. It's a really windless morning with a perfect reflection of two hills in a lake. Centre hill is sunlit, while right hill is shaded. Sky is light blue.
With the hills and reflections together, I feel it's like two wine glasses sideways.

A photo taken on the way up to Helm Craig. The weather was amazing. Random hills were spotlighted by the sun. Eventually it was my turn. Looking towards Grasmere Lake.

During my recovery from Covid in 2020, I had this series of Alfred Wainwright hiking books of the Lakeland Fells to distract me. I started planning out different options for an ideal hike.

Five years later, I was delighted to complete the loop, by making it to the top of Helm Craig. It's a beginner hike for the locals, but not as easy for me. But I made it.

A View from Alcock Tarn: Grasmere and Helm Crag

Another view from our recent trip to the Lakes. This surprisingly hibernal scene of the Grasmere valley, with Helm Crag taking centre stage, was captured from Alcock Tarn below Heron Pike. The green pasture fields in the valley provide a pleasant contrast to the lifeless, bracken-covered, rock-strewn hillsides.

Helm Crag is often called “The Lion and the Lam ...

Back in December of 2020, I caught Covid-19 (Delta). It was a scary time, with so many people hospitalized.

I isolated myself in our bedroom for over a week, with the Lakeland Fells pictorial hiking book series (Alfred Wainwright). I combed through all seven books, bookmarking fun hikes.

Fast forward 4+ years, and next year, we will be there. I'll bring Book Three. Excited to hike Helm Crag near Grasmere.

Just feels so poetic.
