Tonight's movie was a 30-year celebration of Hackers (1995). I kinda recall the era, but I ... don't recall downloads being so slick. Not even at 28.8K, which was still kinda brand new and awesome at the time. Let alone the colours. Now, I did see some pretty colourful graphics distributed through BBS networks in things like ACiD packs, but computer generated art was generally, uh, much tamer.
Great rewatch with a lime Daiquiri to wash it down.
"Hackers" was released 30 years ago today.
I was 15 years old. My friends and I would watch this movie all the time together, while we aspired to be as elite as these guys. One night we videotaped ourselves hacking into a friend's BBS and changing his logon ANSi to something rather crude - and turning to the camera to say, "Well shit on me..." š
We knew the plot and most of the tech was bogus. That didn't matter to us. It was the *feel* of the movie that captured our imaginations - the style, the underground cyberpunk culture they portrayed, the early techno/electronica soundtrack (a masterpiece). We were computer nerds and this movie made us feel like hackers. Hack the planet!!

I rewatched #Hackers (1995) yesterday evening. For any #tech lovers looking for a demented #90s hacker film, you canāt go wrong. Objectively, it isnāt great, but it has very much cemented itself as a #CultClassic. Itās worth a watch.
Off to dream of AOL loading screens and Circle K parking lots ... until next time cult film fans!

Not knocking the Emmanuel Goldstein Orwell nod, because I loves me some Orwell, but honestly, why does 1984 always get all of the fictional cyberpunk noms de guerre? Huxley rarely gets such shout-out and seems more dystopian-ly on-point than Georgeās Eastern Front Atom-Punk fanfic.
