The #HP9816 came with a spectacular keyboard the #HP98203C, nicknamed "Nimitz", because of its enormous size. It's a very nice mechanical #keyboard, very solidly built and confortable to use. I like the rotary encoder, proficiently exploited by the #HPBASIC while editing a program.

Another thing I found in the #birdsite archives is how I cleaned and repaired a magnificent #HP9816 (aka HP9000/216) workstation. It's a very nice machine, based on the 68k processor, that can run HPBASIC and can be connected to external disk drives and peripherals via #GPIB. Using "cat" for the command to get a directory listing is old-skool. My ancient HPs (9845, 87) have that as the directory command in HP-BASIC.

Because HP didn't care what was going on over in DEC/DR/MS land.
