How do #interledger and #GNUTaler differ?

We need federated fiat. Trusted banks or credit unions acting like servers. Apps that let you send money as easily as we send email today, without a middleman. Enabling us to build cool programs that connect to other services, like paying creators for the time we spend with their work. But doing all this without the problems of crypto, just like we don't keep all our money in cash under the mattress.

I think #ghost and #wordpress are doing that. to pay creators, I think we need a protocol and then an autopay system based on a monthly amount we are willing to give, distributed based on time with a creator's works.

Building decentralized alternatives is no longer the problem. The struggle is finding a way to handle the money without middlemen. The current systems prove people will pay. I think they can just be asked to, not forced to. If only the systems were as easy to use, especially if they knew much more of it would go to whose work they appreciate.

I'm seeing people trying to shut down the #GoFundMe for the asshole who killed #ReneeGood. While I'm fully against giving him anything, I am also against trying to prevent others from doing so. These kinds of efforts have successfully targeted things I supported in the past. It sucks that we have middlemen for giving people money.

Just one more reason we need a protocol for bank to bank fiat transfer. Like knowing a fedi or email address, we should be able to give people money. #interledger

Great episode but it ends with very important details about how one's lefty politics seems to have led to being kicked off big social media platforms and denied access to the most popular fundraising tools. Lots of work to do.

Buying stuff should just open your banking app instead of PayPal or asking for your credit card information. Banking is already federated. The problem with crypto is that it's distributed instead, a model too complicated to manage well for the effort most people want to put into it. We just need an open protocol and FOSS apps.

I think the missing piece is a protocol for fiat (not crypto) transfer. it would enable the model above but also make it easier to give a set amount monthly to mastodon servers but also all the services/apps we use. I think having to go thru different middlemen to pay really deters a crowd who uses (demands?) decentralized non corporate tech. #interledger

we should fight for a future where content lives on the site of the creator but is free to stream in any app we choose BECAUSE enough people are giving enough money via a system where we transfer fiat directly based on percentage of time per month we consumed their work vs all media and set up a donation jar at our bank to be so distributed. #PublicPatron
