#interop

#Mastodon's “quote protection” for “unauthorized” quotes is a farce. It won't show the preview AND not show you the link in the UI of the PWA, but you can trivially look at the JSON to find the link and follow it as any regular link. So can we please just stop the pretense that this is going to do anything to prevent abuse and show the link when the preview is not available, like with ANY OTHER LINK?

@dansup That would be amazing. I would love to help you any way you need, and I can chat whenever it's good for you.

And, don't forget @Bonfire - they're also building to the same standard. will be awesome for the .. but only if there's general between different projects.

If you want some fun bedtime reading before we chat, I'm collecting all of my notes on the project here: emissary.dev/e2ee

That page includes links to the spec, Github, and other stuff.

Excellent piece on the #INSPIRE revision in the broader Environmental #omnibus Esp the sections 'first impact' and 'my view' by Thorsten Reitz of WeTransform. Right at the time when interoperability is crucial, for #dataspace , for digital sovereignty, and the Data Union strategy, key pieces of interoperability are thrown away, overcompensating for the all too rigid harmonisation rules we have now. #interop #datastrategy #gdds wetransform.to/news-and-events

This is why I love the #A11yWeekly #newsletter:

I’m enjoying Nic Chan’s article about “wishcessibility”: nicchan.me/blog/wishcessibilit

It contains a link to another great blog post by @hdv: hidde.blog/ideal-a11y-guidance/

Which - you guessed it - contains another link to what I would call #interop for #AssistiveTechnology: aria-at.w3.org/reports

This is so dope and necessary and I hope this will help to normalise #accessibility in the tech industry

@taylorlorenz

- no ads.
- no ad tracking!
- no billionaire owner.
- no "responsibility" towards shareholders (read: line must go up)
- the different platforms interact!! You can follow someone's photo sharing account (say, pixelfed - "Instagram", kinda) from your Friendica ("Facebook," kinda) account. #interop is cool

hi #digitalSovereignty and #privacy folks!

are there any #Canadian organizations that work in the online privacy, #interop, and/or digital sovereignty spaces?

basically like the EFF, but Canadian; the Chaos Computer Club, but Canadian; you get the idea.

The CCLA seems to be doing some work on this (ccla.org/our-work/privacy/), but I am looking for more targeted/focused orgs.

There's also openprivacy.ca/work/, which I had not heard of.

Boosts OK & encouraged! Thank you!

I will kinda sorta miss precisely two things when the time comes that I can totally divorce myself from #apple #mac

  1. Unlocking / logging into my laptop by proximity to my watch
  2. Being able to carry on Messages SMS-like conversations from the keyboard.

Both of these share the trait that my good feelings about them are very much damped by the keen knowledge and understanding that they are ONLY available when using ONLY Apple devices, and tat there is NO earthly reason for that.

#Interop is the rising tide that lifts all ships. I can't change the work laptop I chose without a ton of pointless political capital spend, but I do not personally intend to buy any further Mac hardware for myself or my family.

Again, unfortunately, I go to use a feature that is apparently now supported in Safari/WebKit (and considered baseline on ), only to discover that one of the features isn’t implemented.

Today’s example? The <dialog> element.

After messing around with it and wondering why clicking the backdrop wasn’t closing it even though closedby="any" was set, I find the closedby attribute isn’t implemented at all 😶

Now I have to add some JS that shouldn’t be needed.

Similarly… foiled again.

Me, earlier:

Oh cool, the @ page size descriptor is supported by Chrome, Firefox and Safari! I’ll use it for this print and PDF layout that needs to be A4 landscape.

Me, now, actually trying it:

Wait, why isn’t it working? Oh. Oh no. It does not work at all in Safari. And MDN/caniuse.com say it does, but they are wrong (and there is an open issue about it).

The WebKit bug 63575 is from… 14.5 years ago.

I'm gonna get burned for this...

But I'm calling a python script via popen in C(++), because I can't be arsed to

- rewrite my disassembler in C(++)
- learning about Python.h

The year is 2026 and again, today, I still need to use a prefixed version of user-select because WebKit still requires it (-webkit-user-select)…

bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?i

There’s a proposal for it in Interop 2026 and I really hope it was selected (the proposal selection process has already been completed, but the results aren’t expected to be published until next month).
