See, I left Facebook more than 10 years ago, my home has been Microsoft-free since around 1998. I run my #Homelab where I store all my digital stuff (photos, scanned documents, LibreOffice files etc) on a NAS (Network Attached Storage) server that runs Linux. I have never used AWS or Azure, if I need some compute capacity, I rent VPS (Virtual Private Server) at EU based hosting companies. I did #DigitalSovereignty long before the term even existed. You can become the owner of your data too!

Proving the point that #DigitalSovereignty is a winning argument for the EU, US embassies in Berlin & Paris are calling in French and German officials to "explain" the upcoming Franco-German Digital Sovereignty Summit in Berlin [1]. Seems someone is getting nervous.

Today, @Joop published my opinion article on why digital autonomy demands more than swapping apps. This week an AWS outage even knocked Signal offline. Our public digital space still runs on the same Big Tech socket. I propose with @voltnederland three moves:

📚 media literacy + training
🎨 invest in libraries/makerspaces & culture.
