The Scottish American Memorial, or Scots American War Memorial, is in West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. It was called "The Call 1914", and it was erected in 1927 and shows a kilted infantryman looking towards Castle Rock. Behind the main statue is a frieze showing queues of men answering the call by following a kilted pipe band. The memorial was given by Scottish-Americans to honour Scots who had served in the first World War.

Lest we forget.

Bronze statue of a kilted soldier seated on a stone base, holding a rifle, with a contemplative expression looking upwards. The base has an inscription reading "THE CALL 1914 - A Tribute From Men and Women of Scottish Blood and Sympathies in the United States of America to Scotland." Below the statue are red commemorative poppy wreaths with a few small bouquets. Behind the statue, a detailed bronze relief shows a historical battle scene. The setting is partially surrounded by green bushes under a gray sky.

On the west side of the Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh is the Ross Fountain. Sculpted in the neoclassical style by Jean-Baptise Jules Klagmann and originally cast at the foundry of Antoine Durene in Sommevoire near Paris.

This remarkable sculpture has at its base, mermaids, cherubs, walrus and lion heads while at the top there are four female figures which represent science, arts, poetry and industry - a nice shot here with Edinburgh Castle in the background!

Ornate turquoise fountain with multiple tiers and sculptures, foregrounded by lavender blooms, with a towering castle on a hill in the background under a cloudy sky.

Usually I try to prevent to appear in my own photos but when seeing Adam Waters seven years after my last visit in #Edinburgh I had to talk to him again (he's a Metal fan and teacher by the way!) and couldn't resist posting this historical incorrect shield wall of #Braveheart (left) and a Viking-wannabe (right, me) here.

Adam's a great guy and is part of the #RoyalMile just beneath #EdinburghCastle for more than twenty years now. All money he collects is donated to children for the fight against Leukemia and it is told he raised more than 2 million pounds over the years - read a great anecdote on Adam's story here:

A man in traditional Scottish tribal costume extending his hand toward the camera. He has a blue and white painted face, wearing a fur and leather outfit with ornate accessories, including feathers and metal chains. Behind him is a stone building with a large window reflecting the street scene. A decorative shield rests against the building beside him.

Even after seeing it for the second time, you sometimes need a #potterhead do draw the conclusion that #VictoriaStreet in #Edinburgh looks quite similar to #DiagonAlley in #HarryPotter. By all means this scenery is always worth a visit and once you step down the stairs, you will definitely reach the world of #HarryPotter as you'll find the newly-created museum or #TheElephantHouse where at least some parts of the Harry Potter-universe were initially created (the original one was located near George IV bridge and burned down some time ago).

Split-view of two cobblestone streets lively with pedestrians in a historic European city. The left image features a row of aged stone buildings with ground floor businesses, including a Mexican restaurant with red outdoor seating under colorful flag bunting. The right image captures a wider street scene bustling with people, lined with various shops under a series of multicolored flags stretched across from building to building, and a notable red and orange building visible in the background.

Cobblestone street filled with people, flanked by vibrant blue and red buildings, leading to an old gothic-style structure. A row of people stands to the left, queuing outside a blue building. Multicolored flags are strung above the street.

While the publicity around #JKRowling isn't the best at the moment quite rightly, it is undoubted what she has created in terms of #HarryPotter. Once you are in #Edinburgh and manage to see #TheRoyalMile and if you're a #Potterhead (and even if you're not), this place at the #CityChambers shows the hands of JK Rowling immortalized in the ground of the city Harry's world was created in.

You'll find this place when walking through the entrance, turning left towards a small door!

There are few sounds that make my flesh really crawl on this planet - but the tunes of Scottish #bagpipes is indeed something I cloud listen to for hours, being simply overjoyed and calm...

"I play the tunes for my brothers and Glen
The woods of my childhood call me again
For the colours of freedom so far I did roam
Cause I'm the piper and I coming home"

(GRAVE DIGGER, "Coming Home")

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, the church, Greyfriars Kirk, was founded in 1620 as the first church to be built in post-reformation Scotland.

It is in this famed graveyard that you will find Tom Riddell, William McGonagall and a certain Robert Potter- the inspiration for some of J. K. Rowling's most famous Harry Potter characters. Rumour has it that the names emblazoned on various headstones in the graveyard inspired J .K. Rowling to create characters of similar names in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

Close-up of an aged, weathered gravestone with engraved text memorializing Thomas Riddell Esq. and his family. The engraving lists names, dates, and ages at death, mentioning locations such as Edinburgh and Trinidad. Part of the stone features a shadow cast by an unseen object, emphasizing the texture and erosion on the stone's surface.

Seven years after my last visit in #Edinburgh it was - of course - about time to also re-visit lovely #deanvillage again. Only a few things have changed since 2018 but the scenery is still worth any effort to put it into a photo!

Old stone buildings with varied architectural styles line a narrow river flanked by lush greenery. A quaint footpath runs along the riverbank, with a high stone wall on one side. The structures show a mix of medieval, traditional timber-framed, and Georgian influences, with predominant hues of beige, yellow, and dark timber. The scene is serene and picturesque, set against a soft, overcast sky.

Hey Hugin, where is Munin?

"And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted—nevermore!"

The Royal Mile runs between two significant locations in the royal history of Scotland: Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. The name derives from it being the traditional processional route of monarchs, with a total length of approximately one Scots mile, a now obsolete measurement measuring 1.81km and definitely worth a visit!
