This appeals to trad conservative voters. It is also often the polite way that fascism enters the discourse. Which is NOT trad conservatism, at least not in Canada. At least not before Harper “Reformed” the federal PC.

We have overly simple ideas about how progress occurs. If we just point out problems, people will solve them, right? This seems to be the idea behind an annual assessment of S.F. parks that’s mandated by a voter initiative. The idea isn’t bad; it’s just … incomplete. It assumes a connection between knowing and doing that’s not always there. “How reform happens”: People have known for many years that L.A. county gov’t was terrible, with just five elected officials given enormous power over 9.6 million people (more than the entire state of NJ). * Latest news. So many of these sections squish massive images into tiny boxes.
* Carousels. Massive, unoptimised, images.
* Chatbots. Every visitor has to load several MB of Javascript regardless of if they ever use the chatbot.
