#TIL I don't have enough locks.

I counted 231, but 🤷🏼‍♀️, who knows if I missed any.

Update: I found a whole other box of locks, so add ~25 more.

*I gave away like a hundred when I moved several years ago—this is what I have now.

A large card table, covered in two white-ish towels, with every square inch packed with locks. The right ⅔ is all love locks of various shapes, sizes, and colors—many decorated with initials and designs. The left ⅓ is assorted locks from my personal collection, from tiny padlocks, to high-security locks, to handcuffs and deadbolts. There are around 200-250 locks visible.

"Because it's there."

"Why Pick On Yale Locks?"

"You know why."

"Choose" I think the word you were looking for there was "choose."

An add on a locksmith site suggests buying a "yale" lock but their headline is "Why Pick Yale Locks" rather than "Why choose yale locks," Kind of suggests a whole different activity.

Additional text is just marketing yadda yadda below that headline.

At my school students don't have personal lockers (unless there's a very good reason they need one). Instead, students can bring their own padlock and use one of the available lockers for that day only.

Once in a while we do a clearing out and cut those locks that are not removed at a certain date and time.

I found a box of those cut locks in the basement today, so once I start getting somewhere with my #lockpicking skills I have plenty of training material...

A photo of some discarded padlocks laying on a white table. They have all had their shackle cut. There are an equal amount of combination and key locks, in various brands and colours.

RE: mastodon.nu/@johan_m_o/1156691

I've been practising my #lockpicking on and of for the past week.

In my drawers I found what seems like three levels of lockpicking and have been working on the easy one.

Managed to rake it open very easily day one, but actual picking took longer.

Yesterday I finally got it open and can fairly reliably get it open now.

I'm currently struggling with fine tuning the pressure I need on the turning tool, but I can really see the progress I'm making.

So much fun!

Every time I pick a lock in #Fallout4 I find myself missing #Starfield

Which is funny because the specific type of logic puzzle chosen for vanilla-Starfield’s digipicks is one of the few which simultaneously I am quite good at yet hate so much I have to actively avoid picking locks in that game

Haven't picked up any new skills in a while and thought it might be time to give #lockpicking a go. I've been familiar with the theory behind picking locks for many years, but never got around to it.

Well... Maybe I've been inspired by @alice putting the occasional picked lock and picking kits in my feed, but now I have a brand new set of picks and a couple of old locks to practice with this weekend. Gonna be fun!

Fun timing with them also just now starting a series of lockpicking lessons...

If you're not doing #lockpicking to commit crimes, you're missing half the thrill.

It's so satisfying to get that last click and immediate change in tension when #lockpicking. Been having a lot fun with the Red Team Tools learner's kit: redteamtools.com/learn-about-l

Fun (?!) fact, a common grip for holding a lockpick is sometimes called the "dentist grip", because it's similar to how dentists hold their tools #lockpicking #locksport

Galactica ❤️ This show still whoops the llama's ass. Great stuff to have on in the background when doing some #lockpicking, of yet another bonkers French lock, and with a very appropriate model number: Fichet 666 😁 It's a fairly cursed lock and some of them can be pretty challenging to pick

Photo of a Fichet 666 key. The key is bitted on both sides, and the profile looks more scrungly somehow than double bitted keys usually do

Open! A winner is me! 🥳 Ahhhh that was satisfying. I'm so rusty that it took me a bunch of tries, but I'm definitely getting my touch back again. The iZiS will take a while to pick regardless, the pins are kinda tapered so picking it is a lot of poke poke poke. I like it 😀 #locksport #lockpicking

Photo of a vise that has a picked (you'll just have to trust me 🤣) Cavers iZiS in it. The lock has a weird L-shaped tension tool with a knurled handle still inside it, sticking out at a 45° angle from the bottom of the keyway. There's a hand giving a thumbs up and holding a green handle that has a pointy "probe" sticking out from it

It seems like some people could not make it after all and returned their #BSidesVienna ticket and their workshop ticket. There are now free seats again for #lockpicking and #AIHacking tickets.bsidesvienna.at/7e9/
