@kcarr2015 This is more evidence that #SNW is in a different timeline from #TOS, which is frankly MUCH better for #StarTrek storytelling.

In the Prime timeline, we know Pike, Spock, M'Benga, Uhura, Chapel, Kirk, Scotty, and the Enterprise have to arrive safely at the start of TOS — making them all invincible if SNW is in Prime.

If SNW is in the Strange timeline along with #LowerDecks, then the writers are free to tell any story that engages us as the audience.

@SynAck I def mostly agree with that, especially the first time I watched it - I bailed after a few eps thinking “this (i.e. Seth) doesn’t know if it wants to be earnest #StarTrek homage or #FamilyGuy in Space”… but I went back to it about a year later & gave it another try

all those issues are still there, but in the end I really enjoyed having something new & Trek-ish to watch that leaned into the funny a little, but also managed the occasional deft turn into pathos (I find that some of the best comedians are very adept at funny… funny… funny… oh crap, they just ripped my heart out!! 😭)

ultimately, I made my peace with it as Seth MacFarlane’s very naked, heart-on-his-sleeve love letter to Star Trek (and #crooners, and #MovieMusicals / #MusicalTheatre…)

maybe the fact that we’ve had #LowerDecks has shifted the Overton window for Trek being more overtly funny? (although of course humour has always been in the mix, right from the #TOS days)

anyway, for me it goes solidly into the Star Trek fan pantheon (“#fantheon”? 🤔) on whose throne firmly sits #GalaxyQuest 💁‍♀️ I def won’t be sad if it gets a fourth season (or more)

Fifth and final.

At least this makes me feel a bit better about #LowerDecks having ended. I don't mean that in a spiteful way, but that "5 short seasons" is the new lifespan, and it got a full life under that lousy new paradigm.

Please understand: it's great that it's less pressure on the folks on both sides of the camera, but as an audience member, it's a mixed bag. Some shows struggled to fill 20+ episodes a year leading to major quality dips (#TheFlash, among many others), but a #StarTrek series... there's so many interesting ideas to explore... trying to imagine TNG and DS9 with just 50 episodes each... maybe Voyager could have used a few less, but if it meant losing the episode where Earth dinosaurs left earth on a generational ship... I can't risk that. (What an awesome, risky idea... this should have been a massive discovery for mankind, but it was just another Tuesday in the Delta Quadrant. :P)

Anyway...

EDIT: Just learned the 5th season is only 6 episodes long...
