🚨If an MP changes their party, they should face the voters. Simple as that! πŸ—³οΈ

I’ve signed the calling for mandatory by-elections when MPs switch sides. Let's protect our democratic voice! πŸ“’

UK politics in 2026 will be all about power, money, and influence β€” not just policy. If we don’t speak up for transparency now, the same old systems will roll on. It’s time for real democratic reform. #UKPolitics #MakeVotesMatter

Our voting system has been letting people down for decades, but this new era of multi-party politics is exposing just how broken it really is.
Unlock democracy teamed up with Make Votes Matter, the Electoral Reform Society, Open Britain, and Compass to ramp up the pressure.

please will you sign the joint petition?

Sign the petition… Tell the new Democracy Minister: it’s time to scrap First Past the Post!

I've already lived through this. The Tories merged with the Reform and then at the next election, an MP originally elected under Reform became Prime Minister. Don't let it happen again!

Don't believe me? Google Stephen Harper.

Fantastic day at today. Massive number of people signing our petition and joining our mailing list. Lots of good chats on all things democratic

2 Make Votes Matter activists at our stall at Reading Pride. You can see the 5 different colour plates representing the most successful political parties at our last general election. We use these for our "chocolate challenge". Each plate has the percentage of the vote that each party got. You need to distibute 20 chocolates between the plates to best show the proportions of how many seats the parties ended up getting in parliament off the back of those votes. Unsurprisingly, the results differ significantly from what is written on the plates.

SHOCKING: 59.7% of voters in Stoke-on-Trent North don't have the MP they voted for. That's 21,571 people with ZERO voice in Parliament.

Please support switching BACK to the previous (preferential) Supplementary Vote system for electing mayors in the UK - see actionnetwork.org/letters/devo
The current FPTP system results in daft things like Helen Godwin being elected Mayor with just 25.0% of the vote (not a pop at her particularly). A preference list ensures ending up with a broadly acceptable winner. With the current system and our split electorate, elections are pretty much a lottery **** **** ****

First Past The Post voting has had its day.

Elections should grant everyone a vote that matters, but ours deprive most of us of a representative of our choosing.

With 5 parties polling strongly, our voting system is delivering chaos and turning elections into a lottery - where few people get what they want. It simply can't cope with the multi-party politics we have in the UK.

Surrey Council area is planning to change to be a Unitary Authority - I'm hoping that will be a good time to press for the advantages for a truely democratic way of selecting our Councillors. Unfortunately, we get to skip this particular May's local elections because the powers that be would rather people with a stale mandate drive this massive change rather than elect new people to do it - that would be a waste, you see 😜
Anyways electoral-reform.org.uk/why-al gives a good account of the democratic deficit inherint in the current "democracy". #FPTP #MakeVotesMatter #PR
