I am a #Linux beginner who recently purchased a near mint Google Pixel 3a XL with #LineageOS preinstalled. I am assuming the build is #Gapps, which I do not want. (This is why I haven't done anything with the phone yet; I would prefer that Google never know this phone exists.) I want to replace Gapps with #MicroG. Can anyone explain to me as if I was your 80-year-old grandma how to do this step by step? @emaksovalec @hund and all #microG switches are on by default in /e/OS - that's one of my biggest points of criticism. - MicroG itself is a trustworty project giving users full control over their privacy vs. usability consideration.
I got #fairphone 6 with #eOS and it's great. I was a little hesitant because of the #microg and a bunch of apps that I use (banking, finance, etc.) but there haven't been any issues. Even work's Google mail&calendar function just fine. There are some bugs though but no showstoppers. Really pleased with device itself, it feels nice and ergonomic. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable tradeoffs compared to Google Android phones.

The naming is misleading: The images provided by this project include microG preinstalled.
microG as a replacement for the Google Services is probably not perfect, but at least among the apps I downloaded from the Play Store with Aurora, I didn't find any that doesn't work with it.
(AFAIU, paid apps are not supported by Aurora.)
@GrapheneOS should add #microG . Despite what #grapheneos says, microG does not need to be a system app for anything other then location services.
I am currently researching at the FSFE for FreeYourAndroid on the topic of microG.
If you use microG, how have you installed it? Or was it already there?

Is there some open app that's able to measure stuff via camera and sensors, which replaces the need for Google ARcode like this one needs?

Hmm, with @CalyOS still having paused the releases. Any recommendation for an alternative? Using a #Fairphone, therefore sadly @GrapheneOS is not really an option.
I'm okay with using #microG and Aurora but not with using a google account.
It would be awesome if the recovery process could be done via the seedvault backups ;)

A quiet Sunday morning was needed for a deep dipe in to the wonders and possibilities with MicroG.
Now I have the Norwegian payment service VIPPS running on my Sailfish device. The Ruter app also seems to work for bus, subway and tram tickets. Sweet! The DNB (bank) app seems to be a no go. But luckily not needed on a daily basis.
So looking forward to get my Jolla Community Phone (C2). Sadly, still a few weeks away…

Ich nutze auf meinem #nothingphone2 #lineagosformicrog und beziehe die App der #SBB über #aurorastore. Probleme hatte ich bisher nie welche. Ich hoffe das bleibt so 🤞
I was having issues with the new Proton mail app that recently came out, where notifications did not work anymore. This is on a degoogled /e/OS device with MicroG and apparently more people have issues with that. Not /e/OS as such, but devices with MicroG.
I tried all suggestions to solve the issue (reinstall app, battery settings, etc), but finally the following worked:
1. start Proton mail app
2. start settings app and turn off notifications for the Proton mail app
3. kill settings and Proton mail app
4. start settings app and turn on notifications again
5. start Proton mail app
Have executed the above on two devices and notifications on both started working.
Hope this helps others.
