I still don't know what the decision of #Google to crack down on free developers and non-registered devices means for custom ROMs such as #GOS or others?
Will it have an impact on Google Play Services in GOS or on #MicroG.
Or on the entire platform?

@joeress @iode between #microg spoofing and google registration and other bits from ih8sn there are many apps that say they will only work on stock roms that happy work well with #iodéOS. Much more compatibility than just installing lineage then later adding microg so I really encourage a check as lots has changed the past few years.

But yes of course not all will work.

Just on my mind... I'm wondering if #Google will allow #microG to continue working with their APIs after they lock down everything in September. Anyone with working knowledge care to throw in your thoughts or just speculation on this topic? I assume it will because there are so many older devices still out in the wild. #askfedi

That's the @volla #VollaPhone Plinius Pro preordered (okay, last week already).
Looking forward to exploring a phone with minimal Google dependence, bloat- and spyware again. I'm coming from a very long history of custom ROM usage since the days of the HTC Hero and I want to tinker again. I'm going to keep my #fairphone6 as a second phone. You never know with these banking apps (fingers crossed they all work with #microg )

Aos usuários de MicroG, sempre tive a dúvida se os apps de bancos costumam funcionar sem problemas com ele. Sei que no quesito de serviços de localização (que os bancos sempre usam), o MicroG supre bem, mas com certeza há outros serviços google que alguns bancos devem depender.

Gestern habe ich notgedrungen für meine Liebste ein neues Samsung-Smartphone mit Standard-ROM eingerichtet. (Sie braucht den "echten" #Google-Account für eine Diabetes-App, die unter #microG nicht läuft).
Da ich selbst seit Jahren nur noch Custom-ROMs mit microG nutze, war ich geschockt von der schieren Anzahl von Apps und Services, die da vorinstalliert sind, aktiviert werden wollen und nach Zugriff auf persönliche Daten fragen.
Da gibt es in den nächsten Tagen wohl einiges zu deaktivieren.

Was ich lustig und zugleich interessant finde: #Twint funktioniert auf #GrapheneOS, auch ohne die Google Play Services installiert zu haben.
Die App reklamiert zwar jedesmal, dass sie ohne die Play Services nicht funktioniere, aber läuft dann trotzdem.

Und, nein, ich habe auch kein #MicroG installiert.

Die Standortdienste für #microG scheinen nicht so genau zu sein.
Ich nutze überwiegend #BeaconDB und habe in meiner Gegend über einen längeren Zeitraum schon viel mit #NeoStumbler dazu beigetragen, dass die Datenbank wächst. Leider hat das nicht wirklich eine Besserung gebracht.
Gibts da eine Möglichkeit fehlerhafte Daten zu melden?
Ich werde öfter mal, wenn ich Zuhause bin 2km weiter östlich geortet. Ich vermute, das liegt daran, dass da evtl ein WLAN vorhanden ist, welches mit demselben Namen irgendwo bei mir empfangen wird?

Als het goed is kan je daarmee dergelijke apps draaien zonder Google Play Services.

@2relativ @Frau_Sanders @shiftphones auf f-droid gibt's den aurora store. Da hole ich mir kostenlose Apps direkt vom Google Server. Aber keine Garantie, daß auch deine Lieblingsapp funktioniert. Du kannst die Kompatibilität mit #microG verbessern.

@stadtstattstaat Ich wollte mit dem Hardwarewechsel mal GrapheneOS ausprobieren. Hatte bisher #LineageOS + #MicroG, womit ein paar wenige Apps nicht klar kommen. OpenAI Chat z.B. wollte partout nicht. Ich wollte aber vor Allem mal sandboxed GooglePlayStore ausprobieren. #GrapheneOS ist bezüglich Security Hardening etwas besser und hat etwas besseres Permission-Management. Vorwiegend wollte ich es ausprobieren. Hab es aber erst seit 6 Wochen.
