Started ONLY sideloading apps to my Android. I no longer have any kind of Play Store. Made this little application to which lets me know which Apps can be upgraded to a newer version.
Next up is app upgrade wizard where I can simple choose which to upgrade.
Hey! How can inital #GPS finding satellites on my #LineageOS phone be sped up? I have no #gApps or #microG installed.
It takes sooooo long until I can use GPS for navigation.
Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Après quelques années d'utilisation du système mobile de #lineageos avec #microg. Passage à #eOS (version 3.3 officielle) en douceur avec verrouillage du bootloader, en ligne de commande sous #gnulinux #fedora. Je ne regrette pas mon choix d'avoir investi dans un #fairphone à l'époque :)
=> La dernière version officielle est compatible avec le #fairphone3 sorti en 2019 \o/
@e_mydata Alors certes, c'est un vieux truc sous /e/OS 2.2 qui n'a plus de màj OTA, mais pourquoi ? Ça ne semble pas être un problème de version de l'appli. Par ailleurs, j'essaye de mettre à jour #microG depuis le dépôt #Fdroid mais ça ne semble pas possible car il fait partie intégrante de l'OS ? C'est possible par un autre moyen ?

Recently I got an old aftermarket smartphone and decided to install /e/OS on top of it. This was my first time interacting with the OS and it turned out really nice: It seems based on LineageOS with couple of own apps and built-in MicroG (similar to CalyxOS).
What was really unexpected tho is that banking and auth apps work without issues regardless the phone bootloader is unlocked 😲

@tucholsky Bei mir läuft die App auf #SailfishOS mit Android Emulation und #MicroG, statt Google Playservices. Also zum laufen bekommt man sie. Grundsätzlich kann man aber auch den ABetterRoutePlanner verwenden. Der bietet den Backround der Ladeprognose auch für die Elton App. Der kommt mit nur noch 2 Trackern aus.
Sometime this year local one-way car renting app #CityBee reworked their app to not work with #MicroG anymore. Shame. Or as my brother would say: "nu kurš lūdza!".
Then again, as they moved away from my town already more than year ago, I didn't use them that much anyway. But it was nice to have an option, if my car breaks down. Which it, by virtue of being very old, does more often these days.
Some other simple things
8. Disable google advertising ID in phone settings
9. Install F-Droid where you can discover many FLOSS apps deliberately not published on google play
10. Switch from a fingerprint to a pin (added bonus that police in several countries can legally force your thumb onto your phone but cant legally force you to give up a pin)
11. Switch from google notification servers to something else like microg and/or set notifications to not display message content or at least not display message content when the phone is locked (Im pretty sure all that can be done from notification settings)
12. Switch from googles keyboard app to an open source alternative from f-droid (google has been fined millions before for illegally and secretly tracking geolocation it wouldnt surprise me if they do the same with keystrokes, and also mic and camera)
13. There's a bunch of other phone-home features spread across the settings but mostly under privacy category and accessibility category that you might want to turn off if you have no use for

I am a #Linux beginner who recently purchased a near mint Google Pixel 3a XL with #LineageOS preinstalled. I am assuming the build is #Gapps, which I do not want. (This is why I haven't done anything with the phone yet; I would prefer that Google never know this phone exists.) I want to replace Gapps with #MicroG. Can anyone explain to me as if I was your 80-year-old grandma how to do this step by step?
