"For every Jackie Robinson or Shirley Chisolm that New Yorkers can feel good about, there was a nefarious character like Richard Riker who dealt in infamy."

Funny story. We planned this to be a 20 minute chat but then we got talking . . . . I love it when a interview becomes a real conversation! Thank you Yeah-Uh-Huh for this great experience.

Been thinking a lot about "unbought and unbossed" NY Rep. Shirley Chisholm's 1972 Presidential run. Fun Fact: Chisholm was routinely asked whether she'd made breakfast for her husband Conrad. Can't wait to elect President Harris! @history

Check out this fantastic World Herstory Podcast episode about Margaret Cochran Corbin. I first heard of her b/c Corbin Place in Brooklyn was renamed for her as an easy way to replace the name of odious anti-Semite and union buster Austin Corbin! @history @historyasif

Reminder on a day we might need some hope: NY Rep.. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. proposed barring federal funding for racially discriminatory projects. For years! He was laughed at, ignored, and once punched in the face. But, 60 years ago today, the Powell Amendment became Title VI of the Civil Rights Act!

Been thinking alot about Reggie Jackson's devastating interview last week. He was a childhood hero (bought more than my share of Reggie bars . . . ) Made me want to revisit this podcast conversation I had last fall about Jackie Robinson and racism in the US. @history battingthebreeze.com/beyond-th
