Just watched this rather awesome talk by @glyph at #NBPY

It's been a while since I wrote any #python code, but this is as much a talk about communities, delivering on the promises we make to the people we invite into them, and recognizing new ways to adapt to our changing technology landscape.

And excavators. Worth watching.

@glyph I REALLY TRULY thought I was joking when I told Phoebe that telling me the deadline was in June during #nbpy would cause me to miss the deadline, but I cut it so close i was holding my breath when I clicked submit 😅

And to anyone who lives on the west coast or can tolerate connecting through DFW or PHX, this is the better place to fly to #NBPy, even if the security does stop for a lunch break

@pathunstrom @itsthejoker gave a wonderful talk at #nbpy this year where that is one of the major takeaways. That and that you can redraw the line if you need to.

bad news: For the first time in a while, you're going to have to wait a full year between #NBPy events

Good news: WE'RE COMING BACK! April 25th and 26th, 2026, at our favorite ranch just south of Petaluma. See you there!

Taking the train to the car dealership (for reasons), it's always a great opportunity to snap a pic of the ranch and remember to start plotting next year's #NBPy

a view out the window of a train. in the foreground are some verdant wetland plants, with ponds in behind them. the background are yellow-green hills with some assorted buildings at the base of a hill

My phone is warning me that a Tile tracker might be tracking me. It's a false positive, but I noticed that the tracker was first seen the evening of the first day of North Bay Python 2025. 👋 #PyConUS #nbpy

I love that @amethyst didn’t change the slides - they mention #nbpy

@crazy4pi314 I'm bringing Skull and The Game, both hits at North Bay Python this year. Hopefully I can make it to an open space or one of @treyhunner's game nights. #PyConUS #NBPy

Two board game boxes. A small metal case with the card game "The Game" on the left, and a square box with the game "Skull" on the right.

To be clear, there are conferences I used to _organize_ that have moved mostly online and which for one reason or another I don't attend in their online form.

These are mostly conferences I was doing purely for fun, with no impact to my work.

But #PyCon is both my "home" conference (although #NBPy continues to give a run for money), and critical to both my career and side-projects.

I met this fellow on a footbridge with @pythonbynight@fosstodon.org! He was extremely fast, but patient enough to pose for a photo.

...the lizard. Not pythonbynight. But honestly it probably applies to both of them. #photography #nbpy #sonyalpha
A photograph of a small brown lizard on an equally brown wooden plank. He's just chillin out, living his best life.

It's difficult to explain just how gorgeous this landscape is at the Reis River Ranch. #nbpy #photography #sonyalpha

Do you ever take a picture and think about all the stories that you can make out of it? This is on the Reis River Ranch nearby Petaluma, CA, the home of #nbpy. I think they host the weddings here! #photography #sonyalpha

The gently-rolling hills of Petaluma, CA, as seen from the Reis River Ranch are just amazing. this location just takes my breath away every time I'm here for #nbpy.

I was in Petaluma, CA, for North Bay Python (#nbpy) recently! And believe me, we were doing very serious Pythonic work. Very serious. #photography #sonyalpha #cat #catsofmastodon

I was in Petaluma, CA, for North Bay Python (#nbpy) recently! This incredible mural caught me by surprise, and I just had to show it as I saw it. The lifeblood of the US is in the people that call it home.
A photograph of a pink and white mural on a brick wall. A black outline with highlighted features of a woman dominates the center of the mural, and she appears to be carrying a large bundle labeled "MIGRA".

I was in Petaluma, CA, for North Bay Python (#nbpy) recently and took advantage of my east-coast-ness by going out at 5:30am local time to take some pictures. The Tea Room Cafe was always busy, so catching it in this sleepy moment felt really special! #photography #sonyalpha #multipleexposure

Sacks is an incredible part of the Petaluma landscape, acting as a perpetual fundraiser for hospice care and grief counseling. They also make an amazing shot in the morning! Probably my favorite shot I took the whole weekend. #photography #sonyalpha #multipleexposure
