Sunday, May, 26, 2002 – The I-40 Bridge Disaster
A barge collided with a bridge support near Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, causing a section of the I-40 bridge to plunge into the Arkansas River. Joe Dedmon, captain of the tugboat Robert Y. Love, experienced a blackout and lost control of the ship. Due to the location of the accident, automobiles and tractor trailers fell into the water, killing fourteen people.

Scientists in Oklahoma are one step closer to finding possible evidence of mass graves linked to one of the worst incidents of racial violence in history. Researchers in Tulsa used ground-penetrating radar to survey three sites. Omar Villafrana reports.

Tar Creek Superfund Site

From the late 1880s to 1960s, the Tar Creek site consisted of 300 miles of tunnels where zinc and lead was mined. After the mining companies shut down in 1970, the lead and zinc-rich underground area became more than 800 acres polluted with mill and sludge ponds, contaminated groundwater and surface water and countless other environmental problems.On September, 8, 1983, Tar Creek was added to the EPA's Superfund National Priority List

On Dec. 24, 1924 35 people lost their lives while attending a Christmas party in a one room frame school house. The fire was started by a candle on a Christmas tree. A school building was built here in memorial and a model to point the way to safer county schools the nation over. The school was discontinued in 1943. Was dismantled and sold.
The Tri-State Point, Marker, and Post. All located around Cimarron County, Oklahoma. The places where three states meet.

Chief NE-KAH-WAH-SHE-TUN-KAH
Born in Osage CO. 1839. Died Aug. 3, 1923. He was Governor of the Osages four times and a member of the Council seven times. His sole aim in life was the welfare of his people.
The Chief Ne-Kah-Wah-She-Tun-Kah Grave and Statue was added to the National Register Of Historic Place in 1979.
Located in Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax, Oklahoma.
