It's just great that there is no way to see the typed password, to rule out keyboard language issues.

So this is the beginning of the end of the full usefulness of my late 2013 27" iMac. With OpenCore Legacy Patcher, Ventura runs quite well, but:
- The latest version of Davinci Resolve requires at least Sonoma and
- Sonoma support for OpenCore Legacy patcher has some weird deficiencies, such as: "Cannot edit photos in Portrait mode in Apple Photos on nvidia Kepler graphics hardware."
Oddly specific, but a showstopper for me.
So I cannot use both Photos and the latest Davinci Resolve version. Photos has always had the right balance of simplicity and power for me. It's there and it "just works".
12 years was a pretty good run.

Today I managed to update a 2011 macbook air from El Capitan to Sonoma!
Its faster, and it can safely browse the web again!

I can still do almost everything just fine with my Late 2013 27" iMac, thanks to the (at the time) top-of-the-line model, and OpenCore Legacy Patcher, which allows me to use almost-current macOS versions with all security updates.
Even #Reaper with tons of plugins and DaVinci Resolve still work great.
Two points will make me upgrade in the near future, though:
* X-Plane 12 won't run, because it needs a more recent Metal version, which the hardware doesn't support, and
* #NeatVideo denoising takes ages, but it does such a marvellous job for low-light footage from my almost-as-old DSLR.

Je viens d'installer Ventura sur un mac book air 13 pouces debut 2015.
On passe d'un macOS 10.12 (Sierra) à un macOS 13 (Ventura)
Et en plus, c'est assez simple a faire.
Il faut de l'espace disk pour les sauvegardes et du temps.
@ctietze Yes, there are some graphic glitches in Light Mode, similar to what you see with #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher installed machines.
I suppose the VM graphical rendering in not 100% ready for #macOS #Tahoe (probably due to the new #Metal version).
@rjfaas having just used #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher on my old iMac I found this part amusing: "It’d also keep iMacs useful even when their specs inevitably become outdated". Unfortunately that is not something Apple cares about.
Very impressed so far with #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher. I installed it on my old 2015 iMac who's internal drive struggled to boot, giving the spinning rainbow cursor constantly.
I've just put Sequoia on an external SSD and it runs nearly as well as my M3 iMac.
Only downside so far is despite following all instructions for getting Universal Control working, I can't 🙁 and it's a really neat feature.

Hey #linux folk, I have an old 2015 iMac that stopped working a while ago. I think the internal drive crapped out.
I was thinking of putting #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher on an external SSD but I've heard it can get slow so then I started looking at Linux instead.
I'd be using it as a media/Jellyfin server mainly, but wanted to see if it'd be possible to run Linux on an external drive (media on another separate drive) and bypass the internal drive completely?
Also it would have to be pretty lightweight, I looked at Debian but don't have experience with that.

Ich finde den Formfaktor so toll! Jetzt möchte ich eine neue Version mit besserem Bildschirm und Apple Silicon!

I'm thinking of running #Pop_OS on a #MacbookPro mid 2015. Latest compatible macOS version is no more supported by Apple. I thought of using #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher but the only feedback I have is not successful (thanks @gmembre). Today, the laptop is running #Ubuntu. I have installed an M.2 NVMe adapter for the new system. I've kept the old SSD with the old system. Any feedback to share?

J’ai réfléchi à utiliser #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher mais le seul retour d’expérience que j’ai (celui de @gmembre) n’est pas concluant. Aujourd’hui la machine tourne sur #Ubuntu. J’ai installé un adaptateur M.2 NVMe pour installer le nouveau système et lui donner une nouvelle jeunesse. J’ai conservé l’ancien SSD avec l’ancien système dessus. Un retour d’xp à partager ?
