Sad to read the illustrator of the legendary Smalltalk balloon cover for Byte magazine, Robert Tinney, died.

For @pharoproject #Smalltalk #Pharo devs:
Love the rewrite engine
But hate the matching rules?
Try BPatterns project
The pattern as a block

Talvez alguém me conheça como "@edcrypt" em outras redes.
❤️ Dani e Bruna
Eu falo sobre música estranha tipo :cardiacs_lsd: #Cardiacs e as vezes sobre :pharo: #Pharo #Smalltalk e :python: #Python

You might know me as edcrypt from elsewhere.
Experimenting with migrating to my own place here.
I'm Dani's parent, happily married and smug about it, I like weird music, I work on tech.

ViennaTalk "Gdansk" is released.

Looking at persistence options for #Pharo #Smalltalk today. I previously used voyage to save to #MongoDB . it worked fine.
I always wanted to use #GemTalk #GemStone, but by the time I got to persistence, I didn't have it in me to dig into that rabbit hole.
I think i will do that FIRST this time.
Are there any GemStone/S users here?
I haven't been active in #Smalltalk in several years. I have some great use cases that i want to start implementing, but I kinda want to get up to speed on what's happened in my absence.
So, I am taking a quick poll to see which #smalltalk everyone is using these days. #Pharo or #Squeak ?
Twenty something years later, and I am still dreaming of the day when I can write in #Smalltalk as a full time day job, instead of using it as my secret productivity tool.
I'm in Beijing for COSCON'2025, the annual open source conference in China. Please ping me if you are there also. #pharo #opensource
Today, I worked half day, then had a seminar. I feel a bit better now. Recently, I fall asleep to #smalltalk #squeak #pharo videos. I want to explore the object-oriented paradigm in a pure form. I know what all are saying about #oop and I am not going to preach OOP, but still want to learn. #program
Years ago, for very short period of time, I had ever explored Squeak (or Pharo, forget which one) for fun.
I was amazed that a programming language provides something similar with desktop environment and all things related with the programming language, including the tools are living inside the environment.
At the time, suddenly I remember Lisp Machine, GNU Emacs and Gnustep + Window Maker at the same time.
Although of course I realized these all are different.
So happy ! Today I achieve to work on #opensource project. The UX framework of #pharo
It was a long time I didn’t had to dig inside an unknown open source project and achieve to create a pull request!
I hope it will be accepted ( or at least reviewed with nice comments )
Oh, pharo 13 was released without git tag/github release.
#pharo
I’d be interested in watching someone develop smalltalk tools in conjunction with LLMs. #smalltalk #pharo
