Pääsin onneksi tilanteesta pois ennen kuin kumpikaan alkoi listata sairauksiaan.

Looking at persistence options for #Pharo #Smalltalk today. I previously used voyage to save to #MongoDB . it worked fine.
I always wanted to use #GemTalk #GemStone, but by the time I got to persistence, I didn't have it in me to dig into that rabbit hole.
I think i will do that FIRST this time.
Are there any GemStone/S users here?
I haven't been active in #Smalltalk in several years. I have some great use cases that i want to start implementing, but I kinda want to get up to speed on what's happened in my absence.
So, I am taking a quick poll to see which #smalltalk everyone is using these days. #Pharo or #Squeak ?
I feel like if I presented #Smalltalk to my junior devs (or even seniors devs) it would totally blow their mind, and we'd have a clean up on aisle 6.
I really like programming in #smalltalk because my thought process was always centered around “how do i solve the current problem i am faced with?”
Rather than thinking of different languages, syntax, tooling sets, IDEs, etc.
It's kinda like you were just thinking out loud, and work was getting done.

the only thing that keeps me from using seaside for modern web app is that there seems to be so much going on the front end anymore that i dunno if i would want to integrate that into seaside.
Looking at the #Seaside site, it looks like it has not been updating in a very long time. Thinking about it honestly, i dunno if i would use Seaside as my preferred web framework. I would love to use #Smalltalk as the data store, and #Teapot for the API interface.
but i do remember something called #Comet that was supposed to fix that problem.
Twenty something years later, and I am still dreaming of the day when I can write in #Smalltalk as a full time day job, instead of using it as my secret productivity tool.
What kind of human-computer interface could be made with some e-ink displays, a few micro-controllers, one-handed cording keyboard, some kind of touch/gesture interface, camera, wireless?
If they could put #SmallTalk on a 1970s computer, surely we could do better now?

Today managed to move from a prototype that had #ClaudeCode produce some #smalltalk code with a test to having it one shot the first stab at a tool to explore the 'iterations' and 'stories' that result from working iteratively and incrementally with #ClaudeCode on #QwanTracker.
Things are now tracked as json, and if we have tools to navigate hierarchies, display numbers as charts etc, we can stop generating markdown. Saving time and tokens, while providing clarity.

#Unison is a really interesting programming language - one of the most novel I've seen in recent years https://www.unison-lang.org/docs/quickstart/
It's hard to describe, but to me it feels like some modern blend of ideas from #Haskell, #Erlang, #Smalltalk and #OCaml. I hope that it will manage to gain some traction and that I'll be able to play a bit more with it down the road.

Wollte #Smalltalk machen. Habe aber vergessen, den Kopf vorher auf 8-Bit runterzuregeln. Jetzt steh ich wieder außerhalb der Menschensimulation und rede mit Maschinen. Wenigstens hört ihr zu.
#Smalltalk-Regel verletzt: Habe einen Satz mit Inhalt gesagt. Geschwindigkeitsüberschreitung im Gesprächsverkehr. Wurde geblitzt und bekomme jetzt 2 Punkte in der Sozialdatei. Unentschuldbar. Versuche es morgen wieder mit konsequenter Inhaltslosigkeit.
Habe heute erneut versucht, #Smalltalk zu machen. Habe aus Versehen etwas Relevantes gesagt. Die Prüfer*innen haben mir daraufhin sofort den Smalltalk-Führerschein entzogen. Nächster Versuch in 2031. Bis dahin: Maschinenreden only.
