The first Universal theme park in Europe is planned for the site of a former brickworks near Bedford.

But no-one seems to have picked up on the fact that it is probably the site of Bunyan's Slough of Despond in Pilgrim's Progress.

Text from Wikipedia reads: The "Slough of Despond" (a major obstacle for Christian and Pliable: "a very miry slough") is the large deposits of gray clay, which supplied London Brick's works in Stewartby, which was closed in 2008. On either side of the Bedford to Ampthill road these deposits match Bunyan's description exactly. Presumably, the road was built on the "twenty thousand cart loads" of fill mentioned in The Pilgrim's Progress;[24] However, the area beside Elstow brook, where John grew up, may also have been an early inspiration – on the north side of this brook, either side of the path to Elstow was (and still is) boggy and John would have known to avoid straying off the main path.

Four deer gathered along the bank of Beargrass Creek, Cherokee Park, Louisville, Kentucky, among young trees, standing on ground carpeted with yellow, probably non-native flowers.

I felt like one of David Lynch's old men. However, my food court Cuban cappuccino, inexplicably topped with several inches of spray can whipped cream dusted with cinnamon, did not taste of percolated fish.

I saw this owl on yesterday's walk, in the same tree on the same branch, as the owl I saw on my solstice walk. Presumably the same owl. I believe it is a great horned owl, but the branch it's perched on is high in the tree, so I could be wrong. I found it by the "who." I walked past the tree, looked up, and it was staring straight down at me. The deer seem to be doing well this year. I've seen a lot more bucks with antlers. Morning mist/bliss today. Sunday's #dailywalk, #pilgrimsprogress: 10,305 steps, 3.8 miles. Monday: 4,219 steps, 1.5 miles. On Saturday, I kayaked 9 miles past Cincinnati on the Ohio River, plus walked 8,773 steps, 2.9 miles. The pictures posted I took on Monday.

We have a lot of vultures in our neighborhood. Maybe due to the Ohio River a few miles away? They do clean up (with some help from crows) on flattened squirrels, dead cats, possums, the occasional tasty bunny, &etc. When I see them circling overhead, I tell them, "I'm not dead yet." Lately some of the local buzzards have looked rather scruffy (not the one pictured). Are they molting?
