The weather where I live has been brutal (again) these last few weeks and the heat has made my usual drawing tablet basically unusable during that time. However, while I was searching for something else, I found my old wacom companion tablet from uni. I'd stopped using it mostly because these days it had a 10 minute battery, just turning it on made it sound like a jet engine and it sputtered just trying to open it's start menu let alone run any art programs, but I never realised that if you plugged it into a windows PC it would work just like a small cintiq, which bypasses all the performance issues it was having.
So I did this sketch of Ruby from my wheelchair basketball comic to test it out properly! The Winter Olympics and Paralympics had me itching to draw her again.

Not sure how well my peertube instance will cope, but we'll see I guess.

The spotted-tail quoll (Dasyurus maculatus) is a carnivorous marsupial that can be found on the eastern Australian mainland, as well as on the island of Tasmania. It hunts a variety of critters, including small mammals, reptiles, and birds, and takes down prey with a powerful bite. Its hisses and screams have been likened to the sounds of a circular saw!

Spotted-tailed quoll out of habitat

"Residents have reported sightings of a spotted-tailed quoll at the Coffs Harbour Marina."
There are concerns for the animal's welfare due to a hostile environment of roads, sprawl, dogs and fishing gear.

A mostly uncolored sketch: A non-binary quoll is standing up. They are wearing a red sweater with the angle of the image showing what looks like a white diamond on the middle (both front and back).

Disco Quoll

“Where their fur is normally fawn or black, under certain wavelengths of light, they exhibit a process referred to as biofluorescence – like nature’s version of a white shirt glowing at a disco.”

‘A glowing wild eastern quoll’ Shot by Benjamin Alldridge, finalist in the Beaker Street Science Photography prize, one of several to be exhibited at Hobart’s Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery next month.

“All of the light and colour in this image is the subject’s natural glow in response to invisible UV light, exploding from its natural sandy colouration. This is the first documentation of the species glowing in the wild and forms part of ongoing research into the impacts of light pollution.”

#TIL what a #Quoll is

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quoll?wp

"A female gives birth to up to 30 pups, but the number that can be raised to adulthood is limited by the number of teats (6–7)."

I was like, dang, nature be a bitch! Life imitates art.
