What would the Illinois Secretary of State's Illinois State Flag Contest have looked like if it used #RankedChoiceVoting? Voters would have been able to choose their first choice, second choice, third, and so on. RCV requires that the winner must get >50% of the vote. Instead, the plurality voting system that was used resulted in a winner with only 43% of the vote—not a true majority. This is exciting. Folks in #venturacounty are gathering signatures to bring ranked choice AND PROPORTIONAL ranked choice voting to their local elections.
Awareness of #proportionalrepresentation is growing in the U.S. right along with frustration about our polarized calcified dysfunctional politics.
I think we're going to see more local governments adopting proportional representation (Albany CA already has it for their city council election. Portland OR just adopted it.) Then the state level (that's where ProRep comes in!) Then the U.S. (Fair Representation Act). Then the WORLD HA HA HA HA HA!
Just kidding most of the world already uses PR for their elections.
