Principal Routes of the Roman Road Network. By 125 CE, the Roman Empire had built one of the most advanced and extensive road systems in the ancient world. Stretching over 400,000 kilometers, Roman roads connected major cities, military bases, and trade centers across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The Roman road network played a major role in spreading culture, commerce, and ideas throughout the empire. #RomanEmpire #RomanRoads #AncientHistory #HistoricalMaps #RomanEngineering #WorldHistory #AncientInfrastructure #RomanCivilization #125CE

The negative imprint of the aqueduct the Aqua Claudia. The tuff blocks with which the aqueduct was originally built have been robbed out and what is left are the brick-faced concrete supports, added at a later date to reinforce unstable arches.

Roman road, settlement, and Mercury temple discovered in Germany

In Heilbronn’s Neckargartach district located in southwestern Germany, archaeologists have found a Roman road stretching 500 meters, along with remains of a civilian settlement, a temple dedicated to the god Mercury, and a collection of artifacts. This major find gives us fresh insights into Roman infrastructure and daily life in Baden-Württemberg.

The Roman road, about 14 meters (45 feet) wide, stretches from north to south through the site and shows drainage channels characteristic of Roman engineering. The road linked two nearby Roman camps, Böckingen and Wimpfen situated 10 kilometers (6 miles) apart along the Neckar frontier...

When I stood in front of the Fontana dell'Acqua Felice, I was captivated by its history and beauty. Built in 1587, it’s known as the "Moses Fountain" for a reason. I find it fascinating that Pope Sixtus V undertook such an ambitious project to supply Rome with fresh water. A true piece of living history.
