Would you like advice on starting to research your ancestors in Ireland or Scotland?
Check out a presentation about Scottish and Irish Genealogical Connections that I gave, together with the excellent @glasgowgenealogy and @cbgenealogy at RootsTech:

@david @genchat@a.gup.pe I completely agree with you, especially in the area of generative AI. I have to say I was somewhat taken aback by most of the panelists at the #RootsTech talk about Ethics & AI. Not that they're looking to do something unethical, but most seemed oblivious to the ethics of the source of generative AI data, its use of resources, and the impact of deep fakes' influence on others.
That said, I find non-generative AI to be a game-changer. For example, FamilySearch full text search. #genchat
Next #genchat question is inspired by talks at #RootsTech ... @genchat@a.gup.pe
@MarianBWood @genchat@a.gup.pe I understand. I have a #DNA result that would really affect some of the living adversely, so I'm taking that one to the grave.
In support of your point, I don't know if you saw Laura Hedgecock's #RootsTech talk regarding writing about sensitive subjects. But she brought up some good points about sharing/not shareing. #genchat
If you missed CeCe Moore talking about her involvement with the #PBS show Finding Your Roots at the recent RootsTech conference, then you should check it out!

A quick blog post about #RootsTech 2025. #GeneaSpy https://www.geneaspy.com/2025/03/rootstech-2025-virtual.html
Well, #RootsTech ended yesterday. There is one more class I need to watch, since its livestream was down yesterday. Now I have to re-focus on #genchat . #genealogy
I'm not paying as close attention to #RootsTech as usual, but I am digging the MyHeritage cousin finder that they announced. Family Scribe also seems like a promising service to transcribe/summarize audio recordings (though the standard security and privacy concerns stand). I'm also taking a second look at My Family Archive (fka Collectionaire).
A lot of the other "new" stuff I'm seeing isn't as interesting to me, personally.
Anything I've missed that I should see?
Now that I know where my Polish great-grandfather was from, I can’t wait to poke around some of these Polish gazetteer resources! #RootsTech #NotAtRootsTech
If you're an Apple user at Rootstech, check out my prerecorded session "Apple users rejoice!" for some tips on how to use your Apple products for digitizing and organizing your family history files and photos. https://youtu.be/f7rugXYSkHM
Day 2 at RootsTech is well underway. Stop by booth 1905 to grab a course flyer and ask all the questions you have about why it is so important to take a genealogy institute course. IGHR Executive Directory, Cyndi Ingle, will be on Zoom at the booth at 12:30pm Mountain. #RootsTech #IGHR
@bethroots Did it disappear from the schedule altogether, to just your schedule? Yesterday, my Friday schedule went away & I had to recreate it. #RootsTech
“Honor the humanity of the people you’re researching.”
This is a good guideline. #RootsTech #NotAtRootsTech
Good morning! It's another windy day. Sigh. So many sustained days of this is unusual here, even for March. It makes walking much less pleasant.
I went out walking earlier than normal so that I can park myself in front of more presentations at #RootsTech. It seems I am more suited to walking when I've had more than 1 cup of coffee. After tomorrow I'll go back to my regular routine of using my walk as a break in my day rather than a jumpstart to it.
Have a fabulous Friday!

Can I get enough of learning French-Canadian #genealogy ? No, I cannot! Watching David Ouimette’s #RootsTech lecture. #NotAtRootsTech
Well, f*ck.
BYU Family History Technology Lab (https://fhtl.org/) has some nice tools extending the FamilySearch tools. One is the RelativeFinder (https://www.relativefinder.org/), which can show you your relation with famous people.

I have zero plantation ancestors, but I’m listening to the wonderful Renate Yarborough Sanders about their records. You can always learn something with unfamiliar #genealogy records! #RootsTech #NotAtRootsTech
