The photo is from the night before my 1st Pride parade. I was 20 years old. Think about that for a minute.
For many of us, our 1st pride weekend also included our 1st AIDS memorial march.
Imagine over than half your dating pool dying.
Imagine newly formed friendships disappearing.
Imagine the government not giving a shit because, in their words, AIDS is "k¡II¡ng all the right people"
And you wonder why we're angry?

Five days after the start of Operation Desert Storm in 1991, ACT UP disrupted the CBS Evening News with chants of "Fight AIDS, Not Arabs, AIDS is News."
When asked by a reporter if disrupting a TV broadcast was "an immature and silly way to get your point across to the country" ACT UP replied, "we think spending hundreds of billions of dollars bombing people in another continent is a silly and immature way to get a point across."
Then ACT UP stormed Grand Central the next day, filling the terminal with protesters and banners saying "Money For AIDS, Not For War" and "One AIDS Death Every 8 Minutes."
Twenty-eight years ago today, my doctor wrote out a note for my employer confirming I had an AIDS diagnosis and would be unfit for work permanently. Some tough times followed but every day since then has been a gift. #ActionEqualsLife #SilenceEqualsDeath

@autismsupsoc i insist on being as open and visible as I can be in my life. Whether it’s being #lgbtq or #kinky or #actuallyautistic , they’re all part of me. The impact and manner in which visibility expresses, may differ by environment (work vs home). But as #AIDS taught us, #silenceequalsdeath.
Window Seat Life (as my friend calls it). Brought out the over the ear headphones, and I forgot how good they are at removing noise. The in ear ones I've been using lately are pretty good, but these are better.
The downside is that they do get warm and uncomfortable on my ears after a while. Can wear the other ones longer.
My shirt says "Silencio = Muerte", a Spanish version of the #ActUp #SilenceEqualsDeath campaign from the 80s (and still very much alive today)

It makes me sad that #SarsCoV2 shares so many similarities with #HIV. I know only these 2 viruses that infect and kill our human CD4 T cells. I expect that troubling times are brewing again in the long term, and a whole new crop of people will need their #ActUp equivalent.

For #WorldAidsDay, my list of Names: some of the people - all gay men - I lost over the years, almost all from #AIDS, and almost all before I reached the age of 35.
Today is #worldsaidsday . For some LGBTQ folks in the US HIV/AIDS might feel like recalling a bad nightmare, or maybe even an urban legend.
This week I was involved in the care of a young man, first diagnosed with COVID. His condition started to get really weird. Now intubated and not expected to live, this young man of color who had sex with other men is dying of AIDS…in 2022.
In reality, he’s dying because of homophobia, stigma, racism, and lack of access to PrEP.
My choice of T-shirt today for those living with HIV, and for those who have left us. There’s still a lot of work to do, hence why visibility is still so important 🏳️🌈
