It's really tricky to spread the word about events these days! I don't support corporate social media and you don't get read attention there anyway, mailing lists aren't what they once were, and this event wants to reach people across many patterny disciplines..

One way to make a valid #siteswap description of a #juggling trick is to take any permutation of 1,…,n, and element-wise subtract the identity permutation from it, mod n.

E.g. (2,4,3,5,1) − (1,2,3,4,5) = (1,2,0,1,−4) ≡ (1,2,0,1,1) ≡ (1,2,5,1,6)

Siteswaps can be cyclically permuted, giving a fun consequence:

Take any n×n Latin square, and subtract the canonical cyclic Latin square, mod n. This always gives a "juggler's word square": a matrix in which each row and column is a valid siteswap!

You'll need a DTMF phone to enter the #siteswap to be validated (sorry, it won't work from a rotary dial phone unless you're uncommonly good at whistling two notes at once)

It only supports vanilla with a max throw height of 9, because inputting multiplex, async, or higher throw heights via a telephone keypad is "hard"

@christianp The co-limit of the State Transition Graph for SiteSwaps is a labelled infinite digraph with a non-trivial automorphism whose square is the identity.

You can restrict this to a symmetrical (in the sense that the automorphism is preserved) finite graph by restricting the labels to be in the range [-n,n] for n in N.

@ColinTheMathmo @VisualStuart Sorry for the poor quality of introduction - I was on my phone (my laptop, I'm still recovering from a ransomware).
Summarising:
I met Colin at college, where he corrected many of my initial bad juggling habits, and introduced me to the (then, very new!) concept that became known as #Siteswap. I keep up with him for the #recreationalmaths , the #MathsJam events, and other reminders that I used to be, and still am, interested in that space.
Stuart, on the other hand, is someone who seems to show up in random unconnected places - we were both Microsoft MVPs at various times, and with the #PortlandJuggling Festival being the most local, reliable annual juggling festival, I've run into him a few times there. For the first couple of years, there was definitely a vibe of "I've seen you before, but I can't remember where".
There is likely to be a #SeattleJuggling event in the next year.
Hopefully that's enough hashtags.
