Turned on some good music last night and played around in my sketchbook - just reacting to the sound, rhythms, words. This came out of that. It's a mess but it was fun.

In Wedding, ich schaue vom Nordufer rüber zum Friedrich-Krause-Ufer. Da wird gerade die Gründung für das ‘Port One’ gemacht, edle Büroflächen, genau wie das ‘Upbeat’ das weiter den Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal entlang Richtung Nordhafen, links im Bild, fertiggestellt wird. Über mir und auf den beiden anderen Eisenbahnbrücken dieses Bahnknotens über dem Kanal, passieren Züge aller Art. Auf dem Kanal fahren Ausflugsboote, Binnenschiffe und SUPs. Auf der Uferfläche gegenüber hat jemand große Boxen aufgestellt. Sie sind nur zu zweit und beschallen beide Ufer mit drögem Dancebeat (vielleicht nur ein Test). Da wo sie sitzen und wo die Baucontainer stehen, sollen laut Website des Projektentwicklers ‘Berliner Dschungel’ hin, also entsiegelte Fläche gemäß Schwammstadtkonzept.

In Wedding, I look from the north bank over to Friedrich-Krause-Ufer. The foundations are being laid for the 'Port One', a high-end office building, just like the 'Upbeat', which is being completed further along the Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal towards the Nordhafen harbour on the left of the picture. Trains of all kinds pass above me and on the two other railway bridges of this railway junction over the canal. Excursion boats, barges and SUPs travel along the canal. Someone has set up large speakers on the bank opposite. There are only two of them, blasting both banks with booming dance beats (perhaps just a test). According to the project developer's website, the area where they are sitting and where the construction containers are located is to become a 'Berlin jungle', i.e. an unsealed area in line with the sponge city concept.

Sorry for the radio silence! A bit of unusual time because I don’t feel like sketching as I never feel relaxed with all the chores, duties and weather conditions. But on Thursday we had a planned in advance mertup with local sketch ladies, I went and it was like never changed! I made yet another sketch study of the same view and think I’ll make many many more as I can’t yet get what I want to get out of it 🤭 but surely getting there... #dailysketching #sketchbook #watercoloursketch #mastoart
I’m not feeling inspired.
Anxiety and shame at the violent stupidity of western governments, coupled with tiredness, and the fact I’ve painted a lot recently…..
Everything I imagine feels flat.
But inspiration comes from work, so I made four abstract studies in my sketchbook this weekend. Simply playing with form, colour, line and composition.
Are they anything?
Perhaps not - except a testament (to myself) that even when I feel flat, I turn up and do the work.
