A few days ago I announced to try some solo TTRPG stuff. So, after a lot of procrastination (that I really struggle with) I finished Scene 3 today (roughly 2 hours of solo play; at least for my first tries).

I am really impressed how that developed so far. I use #mythicgme #MythicGMEmulator (https://www.wordmillgames.com/mythic-gme.html) and it is amazing how well this system works. I read the whole book beforehand but until now I just use the bare minimum of the system (which is the Fate Chart, Random Events and the Descriptor Tables).

What these alone can do blew my mind. I had a system (AD&D 2nd), a character (Thief), a detailed location (Greeyhawk homebrew) and a very lose story in mind but after 3 scenes that story changed completely in a direction I have never thought of before.

I started Raccoon Sky Pirates, modifying it as a solo journaling game. Ink will flow! Brisket will be snatched! After last night, I now have a crew.

I intend to cheat a lot, because the rolls look pretty gnarly. (According to the dev blog, the upcoming physical edition looks much more forgiving. 12 damage levels instead of 5 for the ship, more ways to help another player out.)

Solo Daggerheart rules for Tiers 1-3:

- Adversary Stress = 0
- "GM" earns double Fear and always spends it immediately; make up neat abilities to fit the fiction of the moment

Assign levels 1-5 to adversaries, stats as follows:
- Diff (based on Tier) = 11, 14, 17
- Thresholds (based on Tier) = 8/16, 11/22, 20/35
- HP (Lvs 1-5) = 1,4,5,6,8
- Atk = +Tier
- dmg = (Tier)d8+Lv

Encounters should have an adversary level sum of 5 if your character is truly alone, or 8 with a partner.

If your character deals Stress damage, you might want to roll 2d12 to see if that damage applies to their HP or not (since adversaries start with a Stress of 0).

On a roll with Hope, apply the damage, with Fear, don't.

Should simplify things enough for solo play (at least through Tier 3) while retaining the flavor, I think.

If I do decide to go for it, what system(s) would you recommend for solo play?

I’m somewhat familiar with DnD but I’m happy to branch out. Drakonym has caught my eye (because who wouldn’t want a dragon). Also I know there’s a lot of noise about Daggerheart right now, and I *think* it can be played solo, but I don’t know anything else about it.
