There are major parts of the city that the army is now reaching, where it is carrying out deadly attacks on the civilian population. The military is sharply ordering people to leave their homes, but at the same time targeting them with sky-predator drones and quadcopters. Those who manage to get to al-Rashid Street and move towards central and southern Gaza face aerial surveillance and bombardment. Last night, an army helicopter flew low and fired at the road, causing mayhem and panic among displaced families. Imagine people are fleeing for their lives and at the same time being chased by the Israeli military. It’s all part of the Israeli tactics to depopulate the area.

Nederlandse boot Gaza-vloot onderschept door Israël De Nederlandse boot Mohammed Bhar, die onderdeel is van de actievloot die hulpgoederen naar Gaza probeert te brengen, is onderschept door het Israëlische leger. De zes Nederlandse opvarenden zijn aangehouden, meldt een woordvoerster van de organisatie. De Nederlanders hebben volgens de woordvoerster hun mobiele telefoons in zee laten vallen, omdat ze niet wilden dat die in handen kwamen van het Israëlische leger. Het is niet duidelijk waar zij naartoe worden gebracht. 'Er is een grote boot van het leger in de buurt gesignaleerd. Die noemen de deelnemers onder elkaar de gevangenisboot, omdat ze vermoeden dat iedereen daar in eerste instantie wordt vastgehouden.' Aan de Global Sumud Flotilla doen in totaal bijna vijfhonderd mensen mee. Woensdagavond werd al bekend dat zeker twee Nederlanders waren gearresteerd die zich op andere boten van de Global Sumud Flotilla bevonden. Donderdagochtend varen nog enkele activisten uit Nederland op boten die nog altijd onderweg zijn naar Gaza. De Nederlandse tak van de organisatie staat in contact met de Nederlandse ambassade en heeft ook advocaten klaarstaan. Er zijn extra zorgen om een van de Nederlandse activisten, die een Palestijnse achtergrond heeft. 'Maar voorlopig kunnen we alleen afwachten en hopen dat de advocaten hen zo snel mogelijk kunnen bijstaan.'

The road south was packed as Palestinians fled, with hastily loaded trucks and cars driving alongside people on foot carrying their belongings. “We left barefoot,” said Hussein al-Del. The Israelis “were striking at random, with no mercy for anyone”. We left behind our food, our furniture, blankets, and everything. We left only with our souls.
