The modern Ambermoon port by Pyrdacor is a perfect fit for the Steamdeck :) It's been 30 years since I last played this ... I totally forgot how GOOD this is. Gonna play the hell out of this ...
There's a linux native version that you basically only have to unpack and click on "Add to Steam" in desktop mode. Download it for free on https://www.pyrdacor.net/
I've shared my controller mappings on steam ... look for "Ambermoon.net Twin Stick". Make sure to enable QWEASD controls in game settings and set resolution to "full screen".
Controls as much as a modern game as its gonna get.
