Pirates vs Ninjas, eh? Whatever happened to that? :neofox_thinking:

Thundertron, hailing from the Transformer Prime part of the franchise, is unique in several ways:

* He's Hasbro's only mainstream-release "Star Seeker", the Pirate faction distinct from yer basic Autobots and Decepticons.

* This makes him also Hasbro's only Pirate Transformer!

* As such he's the only Transformer capable of taking off one foot to reveal a peg leg!

As molds go it's one I can only describe as several feathers short of the full parrot. The character is absolutely on point served by a cool looking robot mode but the mold itself is awkward, ungainly and a fussy experience in hand, the type to annoy Robots like me who like their DVDs neatly alphabetised and transformer parts to tab into other parts for stability. That lion mode is so half-hearted it makes me rust.

This is why I'm very stoked that the current Legacy United release (he's on the purchase list awaiting his turn) looks like it solves ALL of those mind-perturbing niggles. Y'll be moine soon, Arrrrr!

Thundertron in Lion alt mode, facing the head. Its such an odd design. And from the front he looks like a total steroid junkie.

Turn the lion sideways and he looks way too long to be a lion. Plus chunky back legs compared to skimpy front ones. Mounted on his back is the sword with a press-down to deploy feature that lights the sword up but - bizarrely - doesn't lock. You have to keep pressing it to have the sword deployed. Total rubbish, Hasbro. There's a plank walk in your future.

Robot mode is far more successful. He's nicely proportioned and, in a still image, looks absolutely bad-ass. This figure, also uniquely, has tail skirt/fin things that lend him an exotic Piratey air (but ruin Lion mode).

The rear left skirt-flap-thing is where that star Seeker faction insignia lives. To date he's the only SS member but apparently there are one or two more on the way in upcoming Legacy United waves! Yay for obscure Transformer factions!

Would love to see if Flame Toys, the company that made the Lio Prime model kit in the 4th picture, does one for Thundertron in their style. Would love to see that.
